I have a "bean pot" clay pot,, says on the bottom,, oven safe,, so IM trying baked beans in it,, 3 days cooking so far,, ans the beans are still crunchy,,, maybe Ill have one to sell soon.

I purchased two last year on ebay. I love them- best chicken I have ever cooked.

I use mine for chicken, mostly, but you can chuck anything in and it'll be very juicy, but beautifully brown as long as you remember to soak the pot for half an hour beforehand. It's called a Romertopf Pot, and I see them in places that specialize in cookware.

Stan,did you salt them beans? if you salt beans they will never get soft.

I tried using a standard, off-the-shelf terra cotta plant pot, about 1 1/2 quart capacity, for baking bread. That's when I learned about food grade pottery versus plant pots that are not meant to be heated or contain foodstuffs. The pot imparted a Really Bad Flavor to the bread.Mom used to make this delicious, somewhat dense white bread in a 13 oz. coffee can; I thought I was being original with the plant pot.

I brought mine from Spain. You could try some of the gourmet kitchenware websites. I know The Spanish Table, which is in the Pike Place Market in Seattle has them, and Sur la Table, which probably has a website.

Stan, soy beans do that to me, salt or no. Ordinary beans should be virtually mushy by now.

mr. stan were your beans old? as they age the skins toughen up & probably could be used for a gravel driveway replacement.mr.anzalone, most anywhere that sells the fancy all-clad or caphalon type cookware will have a clay pot or two[gourmet shops/dept. stores].
i reccomend williams sonoma they have cookbooks for it too & if you don't like it they will refund/replace NO hassle. they also have a free mail order cataloge.

bought the dried beans from the grocery store last year,, didnt think they would be that old,,Il give it till sunday,,if they arent done by then,, the chickens will get them

ohh, mr.stan, those are old for sure.a year in the pantry, who knows how long on the store shelves, and of course could be shipped from california or columbia to begin with. :O pig fodder time.
