Hi, is there a way of making a vcd that is on a cd-r or cd-rw play on a dvd player without the dvd player being compatible with cd-r or cd-rw disk's. Is there a code you can put in so that it will work on any dvd player. Cause i bought a vcd that was copied onto a cd-r and i was able to play this on my dvd player how is this possible if the dvd player can't play cd-r or cd-rw media, is there a code you can put on the disk so that the dvd player can play them..????

This is not possible. The reason the CD-R plays on your DVD player is quite simply that your DVD player supports CD-R media. There is nothing you can do if a DVD player doesn't support CD-R media. It's a very complicated technical issue, but it has to do with the fact that players that support CD-R have a second laser beam dedicated to playing CD-R and CD-RW discs and players that lack a second laser do not play these discs.

I understand that, but suppose you have a dvd player that plays cd's and mp3s and crap. It has the second laser but does that mean it is VCD/SVCD compliant?

I dont have an answer but i do have a question, i have many many AVI files off my video camera and i wish to be able to play these avi files on my regular home dvd player... how do i do this? what software is needed including burning software?? HELP!

There should be a way, its just like the eyes!!! When light don't reach the rear of the eyes, use spectacles or contact lenses. There should be something which you can stick on the surface of the CD to enable the dvd laser to reach the recording surface, thus making it 'visible' to the laser. Stuffs like the plastic sticker you put on scratched cds to make it work again may be modified so as to obtain a magnifying effect. Solution 2, the one which is more realistic is that CD-r type 2 are supposed to be in preparation, which can play in cds as well as in dvds, but the project was thrown away with the arrival of the second generation multiread DVD players. I have a question again, is it possible to burn a dvd-r in a cd- writer?

No, it is not possible to burn a DVD-R and a CD-R drive. The reason that a DVD can hold up to 13 CDs is that the laser involved is red, not infrared. CD-R drives use infrared, which is a lot cruder, causing bigger portions of the disk to be recognized as bits. I you are lucky, the CD-R drive will just refuse to burn. It will likely do this. Otherwise, it may burn, possibly damaging the disc, or turning it into a CD-R.

It is not possible to make a VCD play on a non-compatible player. The player was built that way, and that is how it will remain. Somebody suggested putting a magnifying type thing on it... this will not work. Even if you some how managed to make each of the cds bits to be the saze of DVD bits, the effect would be like this:
