Hi KarlI know this isn't the answer you're looking for but have you tried looking for a used 5x7 enlarger locally. Commercial labs, schools, the local newspaper, etc. may be going all digital and may have enlargers for sale.
Otherwise, you may check with www.mrcad.co.uk for used Devere 507s or Durst 138s. It may be cheaper than building one yourself.

Hi Karl. I just made a 4x5 enlarger from my Linhof kardan color (monorail) that works quite ok. I mounted the camera on my medium format enlarger, made a negativ holder from an filmholder and made a lightbox to fit on top. In the bottom of the lightbox I put a diffusing glass and the light source is a 150 tungsten bulb. The biggest problems are weak light source and alignment with the enlarger base. Still I have quite good results in printing. Einar
