Question about USDA decision on Clementines (Oranges)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

While at the grocery store today, I saw a sign in the produce department which said "Due to the recent USDA decision about Clementines, the advertised special is not available". Anyone out there know what this decision was? I did a search on Google and only found a report from the year 2000.

Response to Question about USDA decision on Clementines

The fear was that they might bring in "med" flies.

We found some yesterday at thr grocery store.

Response to Question about USDA decision on Clementines

The fruit was found infected in the southern US ports, with fruit flies. Due to this infestation, all imports were banned. USDA should be in charge of all US Airports!

Response to Question about USDA decision on Clementines

I looked up Clementines to find out what they were. We have an "orange" tree that grows tangerine like fruits. They look exactly like the Clementines, and are almost seedless and very sweet. Interesting.

Is it possible these are a domestic Clementine?

We unload trucks in Nj. Our local supplier notified us that, we will not be getting any clementines at this moment. They ship them in from Isreal and with the 911 problems they do not want to let the ship in. The last one was sent back, without even getting into NYC. Angelika

Clementines are Mandarin oranges. Hope this doesn't come thru twice...
