What did the angels sing?greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Recently, I have begun to study the Bible using skills I was taught to do research. Basically, that is to read the text for EXACTLY what it says. This has really proven to be an eye opener and has also helped to strengthened my faith. At the same time it has made me carefully examine, and not always accept what I hear and see as being the "Gospel Truth".As we celebrate Christmas, we often repeat the same story over and over again. Since we have heard it from our early childhood we know it all too well. Or do we?
Check out quiz # 1 on the website listed below and then you can decide for yourself. I have only one question to add to those listed on the sight. That is, At birth of Christ, What did the angels sing?

Hi, brother Matthews,I've had fun with your question: Sorry that I'm just getting to around to answering. But, here goes. I've not read in my Bible that the angels sang anything, however, they said quite a bit, for instance:
The angel said to Zacharias, "fear not, etc." Luke 1:13-17,19,20
The angel said to Mary, "Hail, thou art highly favored, etc., Luke 1:28,30-33,35-37
The angel said to the Shepherds, "fear not, etc." Luke 2:10-12,14.
What's the name of the angel's song?
Have a great day!

Rev. Wiggs,Thank you for your contribution. The silence I have heard after posting this question must indicate few people are up to the challenge of tackling this question or the results of taking the quiz was something which they are not willing to share.

Luke 2:14 indicates that the Heavenly Host were "saying" rather than "singing". The punctuation in the Bible indicates poetry which I would assume is where we get the "singing". Typically the Psalms were sung and are the hymnal of the Bible and with the same type of punctuation, one can safely say the Host was singing. Now, are the "host" angels? Perhaps, certainly they are created inteligences doing the bidding of God. In some references the Host is the army of God (Joshua learned that.) I guess, technically you can say the Bible does not indicate they were singing, but I'm happy with singing.Blessings
