Anyone in the Ulster County area, upstate NYgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
We moved up here from Long Island a little over a year ago and we're never going back. We have been working hard over the last year but are not as far as we thought we would be, there are always some unexpected problems. Just looking for people in the area who don't look at us as an oddity, also need info on local suppliers of garden supplies, livestock, feed, etc. Would love to talk to anyone in the region though.

I'm in Delaware County, between Walton and Deposit, about an hour and a half away. Where in Ulster County? What type of livestock are you interested in? We raise sheep, and keep some geese, chickens, bees.We now have a small business selling wool yarn, honey, candles etc. Look at our website about us, www.sheepyvalley.com.

we are now raising chickens and have raised a pig this summer. We were thinking about bees in the spring, perhaps geese or turkeys, and have toyed with the idea of sheep in the near future. We will be raising at least 3 pigs this year, we have a lot of visitors and the pig we had is half gone already. We are also having the goat, cow debate at the moment although that is a ways off. Anyone can feel free to email me if they don't want to submit a response.

Hi Bob, We're in Saugerties. I can probably get some of your questions answered. If I can't I know my cousin can.

We moved to Ulster county from the city a few years ago, we're on the border of Sullivan county. Don't have any animals yet, but we do have a portable sawmill and the barn should be up this year. Good luck, happy holidays!

Hi Bob - Welcome to the neighborhood. We turned our 200 year old farm property in a plant nursery. I have a big garden and do lots of food preservation. I also started life in LI (Centerport) and came to Ulster via Manhattan - I ain't goin' back either. Stop by and say "Hi" - were located on Samsonville Rd in Kerhonkson, go to our website if you need to see a map. Best Regards, Diane
