The power of the A.M.E denomination

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Two days ago one of my members, trustee and dear friend when home to be with God. He was 60 years old and white. I mention his color only as a reminder that the gospel message is to be heard by all. The A.M.E church made a tremendous difference in his life. Yesterday as I sat at the funeral home with his children, they talked about the impact of our church on their father. They also expressed thanks to our denomination for accepting their father. Their father had shared with them that other churches did not accept him. And the only church in town that would was an A.M.E church. He drove 32 miles to church every sunday for he lived out of town. His four children, their families will now be coming to our church, to find out about "This Jesus" their father was so excited about. One hour befoe he died he was seen at a jewelry store buying a cross, he was 60 years old and had never had one. I miss my friend, but I am also happy for him, for he accepted Jesus as his lord and savior. Please do not forget our white brothers and sisters are part of God's family and everyone needs to feel the love of Christ and I believe the A.M.E denomination is being called to evangelize to the whole world. Please remember to give of an "Altar Call" everyday by witnessing to someone.

I also had an experience like this at my church, Bethel A.M.E. Church in Mercersburg PA. While walking down the street, one of my trustees was confronted by a young white woman asking for some milk for her coffee. My trustee in turn gave her a half-gallon of milk, and told her about our church. The woman was very thankful. Before saying goodbye, the woman said that her children would not have to eat dry cereal that morning. The next Sunday the woman came to church with her son. It was God's plan that that Sunday we were also giving out Turkey Dinners for thanksgiving. She received a dinner for her and her family which otherwise she probably wouldn't have been able to afford.

I am thankful to God that my trustee looked past her color, and saw her need, just like Jesus does. AMEs remember, "For God so Loved THE WORLD", not just Black folk.

Thank you Pastor for that wonderful story. Paul the Apostle said they will know us by our love.
