Demise of Greenspun.Com Imminentgreenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread |
Philip Greenspun has notified me that the demise of Greenspun.Com is imminent. I do not have a shut down date at this time. Philip has suggested that I contact Photo.Net and have all our accounts and archives transferred there. I have sent Photo.Net a letter requesting just that and will post further information as I receive it.Apparently, this has to do with the implosion of Philip's company, ArsDigita, after being taken over by a bunch of venture capitalists who don't know shit about software. See http://www.waxy.org/random/arsdigita/.

A copy of my posting to same question on the Film & Processing discussion list...Greetings, I too have been following this thread on the LF discussion, unfortunately I don't see many options. Someone of the LF discussion, suggested a fee if that would help fund another option. Personally, I would rather see a site similar to Philip's for a fee rather than Photo.net. I would also rather see it go to Photo.net than go away completely.
Regards,

Reply from Philg (presumably) copied from the Pentax 67 forum:Hey, I'm not dead yet... But seriously the easiest thing to do with photo forums is move them into photo.net. The site has a full-time staff. For the rest of the greenspun.com stuff, I'm not pulling the plug immediately. But I want to make sure that the services are rebuilt in a way that is sustainable. I've already told Steve that we can move his forum onto photo.net and redirect seamlessly from old greenspun.com bookmarks.

Well,Maybe I am just an amateur. I read the story about Philip's trouble with ArsDigita. Nevertheless, I would thank Philip and Ed for their efford in creating such a fine community and giving the opportunity for a small photographer as I am to grow and develop.
Thanks !
Marc Leest.

Damn! I just came on line to thank you all for your past help and wish you all a Merry Christmas only to read you are leaving me. What's a middle aged woman in a small town in Australia with half a darkroom to do for advice now? This site has been such a help to me. I am hoping to have enough gear to be able to process and develop my first film in the new year. Will this other site people are talking about still allow questions from absolute beginners like me or will they get pee'd off? Thankyou all for your help and I hope you all have a lovely Christmas with your families and loved ones and take some great pics.

If this forum can indeed be transfered "seamlessly" into photo.net, you should have no problems, unless the server gets jammed... t
