All you Aldi's shoppers: They are having some good prices on baking needs, butter here is $1.69 a pound, which is about rock-bottom locally. They also have canned crabmeat and shrimp at $1.39 a can, which I like to have on hand for shrimp totellini, and crab cakes. If you live near one, this is the time of year to stock up!

Geez, I wish we had them here in KY!!
-- Barb in Ky. (bjconthefarm@yahoo.com), December 06, 2001.
There is an ALDI'S in Paducah, KY on Hwy 60 across from the mall and in front of Lowes. Might make a nice day trip. If you come, be sure to check out the floodwall murals downtown.

Barb,There's one in Danville on Houstonville Rd.
-- nobrabbit (nobrabbit@yahoo.com), December 06, 2001.
I love shopping at aldi's I can feed my family for 2 months on two hundred dollars. It is great. I need to go stock up some more for the winter. I have asked for grocery gift certificates for christmas instead of presents.

Any of those stores anywhere near the upper right cornor of W. Va. We have a chain store here known as Save-a-lot that have really low prices, most of the brands are odd or small name companies; this is a fast growing chain even though you bag it yourself, and they do not carry published works, tabacco or alcohol. Cosmedics consist of q tips, baby oil, generic shampoo and not much more. A no nonsense basic store.
-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), December 06, 2001.
They have a website you can check for locations:it is www.aldi.com Here are the locations they have listed for WV, but you might check other states you are near: Dunbar Huntington Morgantown ViennaIt is pretty similar to the store you are talking about. All of their products are high quality, and they often have "name-brands" as well.
-- Melissa (me@home.net), December 06, 2001.
Mitch, I frequent both stores, Aldi's and Save-a-Lot, and they are remarkably similar, actually, I think Save-a-Lot is a bit cheaper, especially on their canned goods, and they have a larger selection of canned goods too. Save-a-Lot is a larger size store, between the two stores, I like them better.Melissa, there is a Save-a-Lot in New Martinsville WV if you get down that way, it is by Quality Farm and Fleet.
-- Annie Miller in SE OH (annie@1st.net), December 06, 2001.
Paducah is a little too far for me but Danville is only about 30-40 minutes away. Thanks. I'll check them out. I had no idea there was any any wheres near me. We do have a Sav-A-Lot but to be honest, I'm not too impressed with them.
-- Barb in Ky. (bjconthefarm@yahoo.com), December 06, 2001.
I thought there was a Save-A-Lot close by. I think there is one in Moundsville, which is not far from me. Does WV still have tax on food?
-- Melissa (me@home.net), December 06, 2001.
Barb-I believe there is one In Bowling Green-I havn't been there myself but someone told me she shops there so...But if your 30-40 miles from Danville, that would be too far.I'm familar with Sav-a-lot, theres one just a few miles from here-I was there this very morning as a matter of fact! My experience with Sav-a-lot is that it depends on the manager of the individual store. I think their products are similar, but I've been in some of the stores where they were very clean and well-lit and the produce fresh and the clerks helpful. I've been in some that were "warehouse-y" pallets and boxes stacked everywhich way and kind of dusty. Fortunantly the local one is rather nice-I get lots of staple items there.
-- Kelly (Ksaderholm@yahoo.com), December 06, 2001.
There is also a store called More for Less in Bellaire and in Cambridge that is very simular to Aldi's and Save a Lot.And they have a better selection of meat.....Radar
-- Robert (snuffy@1st.net), December 06, 2001.
Melissa, yes, there is one in Moundsville WV, I forgot about that one! But they do still have the tax on food :-(.Our Mor For Less are nice stores, there's one here in Woodsfield, they are owned by Reisbeck's, but I still think that Save-a-Lot are cheaper and have a bigger selection, they also are the only discount food store to offer no salt added canned goods as cheap as 29 cents a can, which I have to have due to potential migraines from too much salt intake, and canned veg and beans are absolutely loaded with salt!
-- Annie Miller in SE OH (annie@1st.net), December 06, 2001.
There's an Aldi in Louisville on Preston near 264. You can find their sites on www.aldi.com.
-- Paul (pdbowen@excite.com), December 29, 2001.
ALDI is the worst store I have ever been to! Thank you, J.H.
-- John Hump (johnhump@hotmail.com), February 18, 2002.
John /we have been to several Aldi stores & they were clean---& things were well priced--- I'm sorry you had a bad experience---as we don't normally hear you say much that is not postive.
-- Sonda in Ks. (sgbruce@birch.net), February 18, 2002.
Probably has a lot to do with local management. Ours is clean, and generally well stocked, but sometimes the lines are long. The prices make it worth the time in line though.
-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), February 18, 2002.
Go to www.aldifoods.com every Wednesday to check specials for the following week...They have lists of all locations and store hours [some include Sundays].

Help! Is there A store in Michigan? We got the paper but no address Thanks Shirley G.
-- shirley Gagne' (shirleyg@ejourney.com), August 12, 2002.
I love Sav-a-Lot. I have 5 kids, and always fill up my shopping cart to the top (their carts are huge!), and rarely spend over $120. Most of their off-brands are just as good as the expensive store name brands. You can't beat a box of cereal for $1.79!! Or a 12-pack of pop for $1.99! I'm looking for a website for Sav-a-Lot (for prices on items), but can't find one.

For a couple of months now we have been enjoying a new product at Aldi's. It is Vadahlia Onion vinegrette dressing. It is sensational. I have just found out that when the current stock is gone there will be no more. Please reconsider as this is a quality product that meets all the high standards set by Aldi Inc. Thank you
-- Barbara Keefer (Justgrreat@aol.com), August 28, 2002.
Please consider selling that dressing to me by the case...... Thanks
-- Barbara Keefer (Justgrreat@aol.com), August 28, 2002.

Dear sir i am writing to you in regards to your shrimp scampi. You only have it once or twice a year. I wish you would carry it all of the time. Iam a regular shopper of aldi's. I really like pricesvery much.
-- dale peyton (dalepeyton@yahoo.com), September 23, 2002.
I heard when you shop at Aldi's, to take your own bags. Is this true? We have an Aldi's opening here in Lebanon, PA on Thursday. I can't wait. Also, is their food really of good quality? If so, this is almost too good to be true!! LOL Thanks
-- Jen (jencorey@localnet.com), September 24, 2002.
Excellent quality and prices. You can take your own bags and boxes or you can buy them there for 5 cents, the bags that is. You can usually pick up empty boxes througout the store.Visit our new site at www.homesteadingtoday.com

All Aldi stores are company-owned as far as I know. Does the grocery cart rental system work in keeping the parking lots clear of abandoned carts? It's a shame the nearest one to me is two states away and they aren't open on Sundays!Save-A-Lot is up to five stores in my state; they mostly locate in working-class small towns and lower-income urban locations. All locations here are franchised, and the shopping experience varies greatly depending on the franchisee. I buy canned and other shelf- stable items there religiously but tend to view produce and meats with suspicion.
Do you find that Wal-Mart Supercenters are competitive on price for their private Label (Great Value) items? They might be more competitive here because they are relavively new to the area. Are Neighborhood Markets )Wal-Mart's grocery-only chain) any different in terms of pricing?
-- me (me@foobar.org), October 17, 2002.
we enjoy aldi's stores, but the new one they have in ilion,ny has no counter at the end of the check-out by the cashier. they throw your groceries into the cart themselves and it ruins some of the food. especially bread, chips, canned food, etc. they think they are saving time by them putting your groceries in the cart instead of you doing it yourself, but they are losing business because of it. they really should consider putting the extra counter in like they have at the store in rome,ny
