More help needed - old Betty Crocker cookbook receipegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
My old (and favorite) Betty Crocker cookbook has disappeared sometime during the last two frantic moves. I had it since I was in my teens and I am now a "senior citizen" ... and two of my favorite receipes were in that cookbook and can't find anything similar. It was a binder-type cookbook with 3 rings like a notebook and hard cover. Not quite 8 x 10 in size ... but bigger than 6 x 9 ... I "think" it had pictures of different food on a table covered with a green plaid tablecloth ... but at my age may be thinking of another one (grin) ...
It was definitely published before 1959 ... as I had it for a year or two before I graduated from high school.
If anyone has a copy, there are two or three receipes I would love to have again, even just copied ... or a photo of the cover and the publication information so I might have a chance to get another copy through eBay or somewhere like that.

I have a 1969 paperback edition that says it contains the same recipes as the original hardback. Perhaps it has what you are looking for? What recipes in particular do you need? Also, what part of KY. are you in? I live in central Ky.

go on Ebay and search for Betty Crocker cookbook, it returned alot of results with pictures, quite a few published in the 50s. They don't look cheap though.

I'm sure my mom has that cookbook. What recipes do you need?

THANKS everyone ... for all the help and offers ... think I've got a copy of the three I "really, really" miss coming and may have found an affordable copy of the original cookbook on eBay (will have to wait and see how high it goes!)Thanks, everyone, so very much .....

C'MON! Now I am curious as to which recipes you "really, really" need! I have an old Betty Crocker cookbook too, and even with probably 100+ others, still find myself going back to it for favorites (like the sugar cookies).

Okay ... you win ... nothing "rational" ... like yeast breads or stew, although they did have something called "Napoleon stew" or something along that line, I think ... that I used with rabbit that was wonderful ... at least I think it was in this cookbook!Anyway, the three I really miss is a chocolate drop cookie receipe that uses cocoa instead of bakers chocolate ... makes a soft cookie that is really good ... my kids used to love them
Then there is the receipe for sour cream pie ... my grandmother used to make this out on the ranch for holidays and this is the only receipe I've ever found that tastes anything like hers did ... and of course she made hers by the "handfuls" ...
The last one is for bread pudding ... again, the only receipe I've ever found that is even somewhat similar to what my grandmother used to make with leftover home-made bred in the coal stove ...
Would really like copies of at least just these three receipes.

I have a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook (1935) that has recipes for sour cream pie and bread pudding. Wonder if they're the same as what is in the Betty Crocker book?
