as a young cadet at west point, poe wrote his first short story and oddly enough it was a light-hearted story. his friend, there, made fun of it so he through it in the fire. later in his life he took criticism more gracefully but it was too late for his first piece of work.

Everyone recognized his talents. See www.eapoe.org for earliest works. At West Point he concentrated on jibes against the officer teachers. When he tried to sell his first poetry collection his fellow cadets were disappointed to find too many serious poems. Some were awkward struggles to find a style while following in the footsteps of Byron and other romantics. Mrs. Stanard greatly encouraged him to pursue his art and her death also served as one of those melancholic inspirations drawn from so many of his personal losses.

Poe was athletic, was adept at the sciences. In particular he boasted of his jumping and swimming. He liked cats, hiking and gardening, commenting on all aspects of culture, science and progress though little of politics or religion. He liked reading his works though in tough spots he suffered from stage fright as much as his actor/father had.

Alot of people here don't see MR.Poe here as I do. He was a good man with a strange way of thinking. I think as he did and it is a cruel world for these few idiots who have no idea what life is about when our hearts and minds are black and all you see is the cruelty of man, you begin to wonder. Some of these acclaims are false and should be taken absolutely nothing into mind. These are mostly lies, and I am souly here to clear he man's name. You people should be ashamed of yourselves.
