I've personally known Dr. Rice since 1987 when we were both Visiting Fellows @ The Pentagon. I don't think she has Presidential aspirations based on her professional ambitions which don't include becoming a career Washington politician. In addition, she is still indebted to me for a 1987 luncheon which hasn't been repaid. As I kindly remind her if there is one thing economists know it is the time value of money. The majic of compound interest brings that lunch tab to now $672.36. Until that modest debt is repaid I must withold support of her "nomination" :-) QED

Her area seems to be all foreign policy. She'd make a fine Secretary of State, but has she had any experience in domestic issues? The saying is presidents are elected for their domestic positions, but once in they find foreign policy makes or breaks them.

No, I do not think she will. Unfortunately, Americans are not ready for a male president of color, so I know they certainly are not ready for a female president of color.

Tackling the race and gender issue together would be difficult (though easier as a Republican than as a Democrat), but there is a scenario I think could lead to "Madame President Rice." If Cheney were to resign for health reasons before the end of George W's term and Colin Powell to become VP, that would set up Powell to run for President in 2008. If Powell chose Ms. Rice to be his running mate in 2008, and if a Powell-Rice ticket had a fairly successful run (no huge scandals or crises), then Ms. Rice will only have to tackle the gender issue in 2012 or 2016. By that time, it shouldn't be much of an issue at all, and if a Powell-Rice administration were relatively successful it should be fairly easy for her to turn that into her becoming the first woman POTUS.

I am reading "Condi, The Condoleezza Rice Story" by Antonia Felix. The qoute comes from Chapter 3, Twice As Good: "My parents had me absolutely convinced that . . . you may not be able to have a hamburger at Woolworth's but you can be president of the United States." -Condoleezza Rice.

To talk about her experience is an excuse - Clinton never had a job; Carter was a peanut farmer; Reagan, an actor; Bush I, CIA Director; and Bush II, managing partner of a baseball team that has never won the world series. Our hidden bias takes the form of either under-qualified or over- qualified. HMMMM, now where have I heard that before. Ms. Rice will be a candidate for VP in 2004 (Cheney's health will force him not to run); assuming they win, it will be Condi vs Hilary in 2008 with Condi winning in a landslide. Praise the Lord.

After reading her biography,and seeing much of Ms. Rice in the news, I am truly amazed at this woman. She has clearly overcome issues of race and bias, issues of color, with academic and professional successes at the highest levels. I believe that, contrary to what others may think, America and Americans at large, do not care about color when choosing a president. I for one would vote for Ms. Rice. If a peanut farmer can become president, if an unemployed lawyer, and and inexperienced farmer can become presidents, then why not Ms. Rice.
