I plant proso millet for ground cover in the fall and I was wondering if chickens can eat the grain and if it is good for them? Thanks

Linda, we have raised it with great success. Cut it and put it up loose and then feed it to the chickens all winter. They loves scratching and picking at it and it gave them nice bedding as well. Then in the spring we just put it all back out on the compost pile.

Our chickens loved to eat the young millet plants also. Had to keep them out so it could finally go to seed. We mainly grow it for my daughters cockatiel. My daughter (4yrs.) started a bird garden this year with peas & carrots (we diced & dried) millet, pumpkin (chickens love it fresh)and sunflowers.

We have planted millet for our cockatiels for the past two years. It is like birdy popcorn, they can't seem to get enough of it. I don't see why you couldn't feed it to chickens as well. Kim :-D
