Modifying Panasonic DVD-RV30 to play CD-Rgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
Anyone know of a method to modify a Panasonic DVD-RV30 player to accept CD-R media (specifically for homemade video CD's) ?

Most DVD players that support CD-R media have a 2nd laser that is used to read CD-R media. In a few cases, like with some Sony players, they only have one laser but it has a wider tolerance than most single laser players and will work with some CD-R media. The solution to your problem is to add another laser or replace it. To be honest with you, you could pick up a cheap Apex or similar brand for $99 US if you want to watch homemade VCDs and it would be a lot less trouble than modifying your Panasonic. www.vcdhelp.com has a list of which DVD players support which formats and this might be of some interest to you if you decided to buy another DVD player. You could also try burning to CD-RW media. Sometimes DVD players that don't support CD-R will play CD-RW media, but this doesn't always work.
