Anyone sell at the NYC farmers markets?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I looked into selling farm products (produce, eggs, etc) at the NYC farmer's markets a while back. It's seems to be fairly successful: low cost, large customer potential. Has anyone tried it before? How did it work out? What location is the best?

Where are you located? I have a friend near Albany who takes her sheepskin products ie; slippers, hats and frozen lamb and does quite well. But she has to leave her home 3:00 am to get there, to one of the Green Markets in Manhattan. I don't know if the restricted travel due to the Sept 11 attack has affected her getting there or not.

I live in NYC and often go to the Greenmarket in Union Square. It's a great deal for the farmers and city people! There is a lot of competition, but also lots of customers. Btw, i saw the sheep lady there recently.

I also live in NYC and love the Union Square market! I know that it is very popular with a lot of people in the city. One idea might be to research before you go to make sure that the products you would like to sell are not already being sold by too many people. I sometimes feel like some days have way too many of a certain type of produce. I know that this has to do with the season, but it might not be so great for the vendor, and might not make the trip worthwhile. Just a suggestion. Uniqueness seems to sell there.
