Purchasing bulk wheat

Does anyone know where to buy affordable bulk wheat in the St. Louis area? I ordered a bag through Walton Feed but the shipping nearly tripled the cost.

Kinda late for this year, but I just take a few buckets to the field when they are harvesting and ask if I can fill them up. Taking along a couple of bottles of cold water to offer them usually does the trick.

Hi Lynn, I grind my own wheat for bread. The idea is a good one about getting it from the farm right out of the field. But it would probably need to have the stuff blown out befor you could use. Are there any health food stores in your area or in large towns near you. Sometimes they sell bulk items. Buy by the pound items. Maybe they could incorporate several buckets of wheat berries with their order for you. That would get the shipping cost down a lot. And probably not cost you more than Walton's since they would be ordering a wholesale. Even if they mark up the wheat it would still be cheaper than buying from Walton's. And I have no problem with Walton's I have had tons of food from them in the past. All products are great, just pricey. Enjoy. Linda

Find a feed store or farm co-op and buy "feed" wheat. Perfectly good for grinding, just may have to clean out the "other" seeds and grains from it. $7-8.00 a 50 lb bag. Been using it for years.

Hi, I used to work for an organic flour mill and get all of my flour and wheat berries from there. Fortunately for me it's local. However, the name of the flour mill is Rocky Mountain Flour Milling, and they are in part owned by Bay State Milling Company. Almost all large flour companies have distributers through out the US. If you looked any of them up on line and got a toll free number to call. They could direct you to the one closest to you. I know that on a 50# bag of flour or wheat berries the UPS cost used to be about $15.00. I hope you find what you are looking for! God bless, Pam

All the feed stores here say that their rolled oats and other grains are "sprayed" and not fit for human consumption. Sprayed with what? Can it be cleaned off?
