WHY THE FORUM WAS PASSWORDED

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

The reason is towards the bottom of this thread.

We'd like to thank all those lurkers who wrote in panic, lol, begging, demanding, pleading and otherwise groveling for the password! Snort! Scared ya, huh? Whoa, the power!!!

Bump.

I must admit, snob that I am, that I prefer this forum to be passworded.

I come here mainly for news and to shot off my mouth a little over the !@#$ in the news. There are plenty of other forums for gossip and soap operas.

What Meemur said plus the sense of humor on this forum matches mine - - very bawdy :) Hi Carl and Barefoot.

dear drunk@with.power...........was that suppose to be a WORKING link?? LOL.......do we still have to use made up e-mail addies?? I participate on other forums on this server and have to over ride my "cookie" every time I post here.

Hmm, the link works for me. I wonder if it's the power that makes it work?

You don't have to use a fake name and address if you don't want to, but nobody can guarantee a psycho-free forum, that's why we don't recommend it.

Glad to see it passworded. Countryside's starting to have problems now, too. I don't think they have a clue what could happen over there, and some of them are pretty gentle souls.

I'm not bawdy, you must be talking about Barefoot...

Hi everybody, glad to see some faces haven't seen for a while, since I hang, when I hang, mostly here...

I always bow to the will of the Despots... when Git yells for the catnip, I shrivel....

lol I'm one of those lurkers who panicked and begged. I'm not proud. lol I enjoy getting my news like this. I post at Countryside too, but haven't gone there for long. What exactly can happen? I'm really green to all this. Anyway, thanks for listening to my begging. Iris

My Dear Mistress Git;

I made it here (I didn't have enough smarts to look down the lusenet lists, untill I got to the passworded website LOL).

"As for the Game...It is Done"!

I can attest to the fact that Iris is a magnificent groveler, and oyu know it takes a lot to impress me.

What exactly can happen? Well, are you asking about when I lose it or about the current terrorism situation? I dunno, some folks around here would say there isn't much difference, lol.

I'm pretty optimistic because, she said smugly, I went through the havoc left by the Germans in England in WWII. Oh stop that, who said, "There she goes again"? So I figure if a snotty-nosed little kid--and hundreds of thousands more like her--can get used to playing in bomb craters and not having candy and fruit and other good things and seeing war-maimed people on a daily basis and grow up relatively sane, then we can survive this. I think.

I still can't make that link work.....oh well, guess I don't need to know. Hi Iris.....so you groveled huh?? I was going to e-mail you when I saw your remark over at CS but didn't get to it and now you are here. :>) I am relatively new here, don't post to often but get my "new fix" here.

Maybe that was an admin link. Try this one: One can always hope

I've been around since late 98 and always liked Old Git's fortitude. I admire quick well thought out decisions. I think OG did the right thing in a timely manner. There are times when a disease upon information requires absolute measures. Right now information is serious. When it becomes a virus I'll shift my priorities. "If" I have a good immune system.... Good Grief! Does that mean I have to nurse "LL?"

yes it does.. don't mind me, just talking to myself.

Well, now there's a good attitude! How can we Despots reward you, Rollcall--offshore bank account, new Lotus, something like that? I don't know exactly what looting, pillaging and plundering we've done lately but I can check the warehouse.

Just been sending the password to some more grovelers. It makes my day, it really does.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If you're giving away door prizes, I'd like a bag of combs a la Big Lots.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

If you have long hair, they have these $1.99 bags of dozens of elastic bands with small, medium and large balls on them, lol!

CAAAAAAAAARL!!! Opening for ya!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Hi Kip, you wouldn't happen to have $5 I could borrow till Friday, would you?

[innocent look]

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I read only the first bit of "that" thread--did Kip get into it with the, um, victim? Anyone have a link?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

HAHAHAAaaa.... Kip... I need $32,000 to fix my house so it doesn't slide into the retention pond.

(OW! OW!)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yo, Mother Despot!! add to your total, I had one ask for it, !!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I really do have a good attitude, thank you OG.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2001

I think most of us here do have a pretty good attitude, RC. Things look awfully bleak at times but "wallowing" in it won't help. It still breaks my heart to see the smoking ruins of the World Trade Center, knowing so many lives were taken and even more were shattered. I guess a grand-scale mass murderer is bound to arise every now and then--Stalin, Hitler, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Ceaucesciu, Saddam, are some of recent vintage, and now bin Laden--but that doesn't make it any easier to get through the September 11 attacks. Still, one is determined to live one's life without cowering in terror, at the same time taking prudent steps for protection.

I did some shopping at Big Lots last week, bought good Italian biscotti, Belgian chocs, Brach's candies, decorative tins of Twinings, Peak Freen's cookies, coffee, and other stuff, some of which I'll make into Christmas baskets for the local fire and police stations. I usually do that anyway, but this year it means more. Hope others will folow suit.

Anyway, back to the subject. I do get angry when a troll barges in here and tries to crap on the carpet. It's so totally unnecessary and it's a form of terrorism, albeit on a very small scale. I tried to make that point once on the old forum and talked about disruptive trolls as bullies and said those who, for instance, perpetrated Krystallnacht were bullies gone out of control. My words were twisted and the whole thread became a fiasco, but big tyrants from little bullies do grow!

Sometimes we can remove ourselves from a bullying situation, as we did when the Despots Committee decided to password the forum. In this case, I think it's exactly the right action because trolls hate to be ignored or excluded. Besides, you can't actively fight that sort of thing without a great deal of time and energy, which none of us has.

Remember the mantra of the terrorist: We only have to be lucky once; you have to be lucky all the time. (A quote from the IRA to the Royal Family.) Well, we don't have to be lucky all the time, we just need a password!

It's nice to have all you good people around and thanks for all the mail!

Amen! Put the baby to bed!

I'm up too late.

Good job, OG.
