Christmas ideas

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

We have decided to spend our time together for Christmas rather then money!! What we would like to do for family and friends is make up jars of cookie mix, bean soup mixes etc. to give as gifts. I need your help. I need measurements of ingredients to put in the jars. I am known as a good cook, but seldom measure anything!! I think that we can come up with some great ideas, just need the recipes. Thanks for your help. Denise

Hello Denise, The most recent issus of Backwoods Home has the recipes for the jar cookies you are looking for. I don't know if it is on their website or not but, you can check it at: www.backwoodshome.com Sincerely, Ernest

Denise~ The website www.members.tripod.com/~MaryMae/jarlinks.htm has some good and different recipes to be given as jar gift. Not just cookies, but brownies and soups, etc. Also, try www.holidayorganizer.com. It has some different ideas for homemade. I am not only doing cookie mix in a jar, but also homemade hot cocoa. I am also going to mix up some bath salts, soap and candles for my niece with a peppermint theme, place in a basket and tie candy canes on the handle. She loves anything frufru and this is pretty inexpensive.

I love these jars, it is especially fun to decorate the tops with fabric and ribbons. I think the hot chocolate idea is great to go with the cookies. I have also seen bean mixes, granola mix, rice with spices, and brownies. Food is always a nice gift at Christmas time.

Than you all for the responses!! We will get busy as I have lots of extra jars. I inherited all my Grandmas jars when she moved into a retirement home......she said I was the only one of the younger generation to know how to use them!! (none of her daughter in laws did) and she had all boys. Denise
