Follow any recipe for apple sauce and butters, and substitute the pears. You can also can them in heavy syrup, like peaches.

If you go to allrecipes.com, type in pear, you will get bunches of recipes that will aid in your ideas.

A pear chutney comes to mind, too.

If you like a healthy snack...dry them. They make your home smell soooo good too.

I have been canning pears the past couple of days. I have done 32 quarts so far & figure I'm about half done. I can mine in light syrup. I am also going to do some using pineapple juice, water, & sugar. It sure is nice to open the cabinet & grab a jar whenever I want. :-)

Just plain old-fashioned canning them (we'd call it bottling them here, but I guess that's because we use bottles). Preserved pears one or two times a week all year are a treat. Also drying them. Also taking the dried pear (sections) and rehydrating them in heavy sugar syrup, then re-drying them (glace fruit). Also perry (pear equivalent of alcoholic home-brew apple cider, but with quality of champagne - search for it with google on the web).

My mother-in-law would make pies with them. She just baked them exactly as she would an apple pie. I canned some and they are good just with cottage cheese.

When you can them put a tablespoon of redhots on the top of the pears just before you put the lid on and you have a nice light cinnamon flavor and a pretty pink color too.

Try pear relish or pear mince meat. There are recipes for both in the Ball Blue Book. The relish is really good and the mince meat recipe makes an OK pie-I'm not real fond of mince meat. Both have regular ingredients.

I put a slice of orange in the bottom of each jar. Tastes great!
