Does anyone have interesting ways of preparing canned green beans? They're pretty boring just plain...

I like to make green bean casseroles-For a quart of green beans use one can of cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup shredded cheese, chopped onions, chopped ham or chopped cooked bacon. Mix together and put either cheese or/and canned french fried onions on top and bake until bubbly on top. Another recipe is to put chunks of ham, chopped onions and potatoes together and cook til potatoes are tender. This is really good with cornbread.

Funny you should ask. Here's my green bean casserole I just made today:

Drain water from one quart green beans into pot.

In fry pan, brown 1/4 lb. hamburger with onions, add spices and worchester sauce if desired. Set aside.

Dump beans in casserole baking dish.

Heat bean water to slow boil and add bean or rice flour, stir to thicken to gravy-like consistency. Pour over beans. Add hamburger, bean sprouts, chopped mushrooms. Add slices of yellow or white cheese. Top with bread crumbs and bake 45 mins at 325 deg.

Better than average chow.

Green beans, crushed garlic cloves, diced ham, two cans tomato paste, 2 tblsp sugar and (if you can find it but it's ok without) Ajvar-- a middle eastern roasted red pepper puree.

If you can't find ajvar--you can just roast red peppers yourslef and chop them up and put them in.

My husband loves this dish.

Put into a crockpot: 1 lb of frozen ground round, 1 lb frozen green beans, and about 3 potatoes, either skins on or peeled, whole or cut however you prefer. Add salt and about a pint of water, cover it, and turn on low. It will be ready in about half a day. Good for sunday dinner or when you have to be gone half the day. Good homemade bread rounds out the meal just fine.

canned beans work just fine in the above recipe. Just dump water and all into the crockpot. I am serious, this recipe tastes a LOT better than you would expect!

Oh that's right... I like frying canned green beans, too. Just drain them well, and heat some butter in a heavy frying pan. dump in your beans and stir-fry them till they begin to look a little scorched in places. The flavor is really good. Garlic or onion sauted in the butter first varies the flavor.

just heat some cracker crumbs in butter & add the drained beans, & stir until "dry" - like fr. fried .

Brown some onion in oil in bottom of pan. Add canned green beans and mushrooms. Add 1 beef buillion cube. Let simmer as long as you want, the longer the more "beef" flavor will come out, as well as the onion.

After cooking, drain liquid and while beans are still hot add a slice or two of cheese and let melt. Easy, quick and a little different taste.

Our favorite is to chop bacon and cook, add diced onion, cook until soft. Add beans and 1 chopped tomatoe or canned tomatoe and a few seasonings. Its easy and tastes great.

beans, water, garlic salt, hickory smoke, brown sugar and some bacon. Put it in a sauce pot and heat. Could also add onions, but I'm the only one in my family who likes them.
