Anybody want to trade the country life for suburbia?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I have a home in a subdivision in central Florida and wonder if anybody wants to give up the good life in the country and trade? We are interesed in "SE OH" or WVa or KY. This is a nice place to retire and we are not ready anymore we need to be outside with animals and woods again! Our place is valued in the mid 40's but we could go up a little with some cash for your place. Hope to hear from someone!

Mary:I suspect to get someone interested you need to provide more information. What size lot do you have? How close are your neighbors and general shopping? House size, bedrooms, baths, garage, workshop? Where are you located? From the price you noted, I suspect you are in a manufactured home. Look at a realty listing and basically supply the same information.
Just about anywhere in the country you won't get much for $40,000 today just for land, much less a liveable house. Then the homesteader's dilemma comes into play: There are few jobs where you either can afford or want to live.

Oh Mary, we are thinking of moving to Florida and giving up country life for warmth but not for a few more years until my husband can retire. We are in northwestern New Jersey and everything within an hour or two of New York City is expensive. Then again, you weren't looking here anyway. Just dreaming myself I guess, since today it is colder than it has been lately...hummmm...

LOL..we just sold our house in Florida and moved to SW Virginia! We will NEVER go back! My daughter & son-in-law are also selling thier home in Florida and becoming homesteaders. I never in a million years ever thought they would do it! Best of luck to you. I hope you find the perfect homestead!

Don't dash all hopes. I just got a 5 acre lot next to a national forest, a great house, huge garage, huge chicken coop, and out buildings for $40,000.00. The homes are out there. Good luck! You may just want to sell after you check your United Country listings.

Mary...We're in Maine and would NEVER think of giving up what we have here to move south. But I will sure keep my ears open...just in case someone from around here is looking for what you have :-)!!

Why don't you keep it and just rent it out? To me, the big problem with Florida is hurricane season--I'll take earthquake country myself. At least you can build for that, or at least so that things falling won't kill you.If your house is near any points of interest (a college, Disney World, major employer for example) those also may be good places to advertise your property.
