I had stopped eating breakfast early, due to busy mornings and too much snack food at work. Today, I took the time for breakfast when I woke early, and now, two hours later, I am STARVING again. This doesn't happen when I don't eat breakfast.WHY???

Hey Rose, I've been fighting that all my life, but when I went to eating my supper the night before no later than 6 pm things changed for me. It takes a while for food to digest, so if I eat later than that my body never gets to rest. Also, you might look at the kind of food you are eating. Protein usually soothes the hunger and heads off the cravings two hours later. Also, it might be just the lack of a mental habit you are experiencing. Don't stop now. Eventually your body/mind will get the signals that breakfast is good for you. Just a few ideas. Good luck. Iris

I'm no dietician here but maybe you are more active physically when you are home and burn your "fuel" up faster. So what's the problem about eating when your body is hungry ?? It just needs fuel and as long as you eat the right kind does it really make a difference ?? Learn to take the messages that your body sends you but you really, really should eat a good breakfast each morning. I think we all get hung up on eating too much or not looking like we did when we were 20 years old...as long as you feel well and no health problems I wouldn't worry about it. Have you had a good check up lately...sure wouldn't hurt. Good Luck and Enjoy your Good Health !!!

Rose, when you eat it rev's up your metebolism. That's why if you can eat several small meals a day you can keep your metebolism up and burn calories faster. Just make sure you keep the meals small and low calorie and eat about every 2 or 3 hours. Now if only I would heed my on advice maybe I could loose weight. LOL

I don't know why but if I eat before I feel hunger in the mornings I get cramps that can double me over, it's like my gut is still asleep. If I am up, and do a couple of hours of phyical work I can eat sooner with out discomfort, if I eat oatmeal I don't get hungery again for a long time, if it is eggs or meat a little sooner, if it is sweet much sooner, if I eat something sweet will I keep snacking all day unless I get away from the food,

Try working around the house and stuff first if possible and then eat a GOOD,BIG,RELAXED breakfast. It works! If you work at a outside-the- house job then take something with you (make your own McMuffins the night before or a couple of bagels,etc.)and eat during morning break. Also depends on what you are eating for breakfast, I have noticed myself that if I just eat maybe a bowl of rice crispies or frosted flakes that it don't last very long and in no time I'm hungery again,but if I eat oatmeal and toast or eggs and potatoes or pancakes/waffles,I can go longer before eating again.

Your hunger is mainly responsive to your blood sugar balance. Whether or not you are hungry first thing in the morning is affected by what you had to eat last night and how close to retiring it was, as well as your own individual metabolism. Many people are just not hungry until their systems are fully awake, even though they have not eaten late at night. There's nothing wrong with that,we are all different; listen to your own individual body.If your breakfast consists predominately of carbohydrates, as does the typical American's, you will probably find it will not stay with you long. Carbs spike you blood sugar very quickly, and if they are not at least accompanied by fat and protein, which slows down the process, your blood sugar will typically drop just as fast as it rose, in about two hours time. Then you will find yourself hungry again, and very likely tired as well. I would suggest attempting to keep your blood sugar balanced by eating your meals, as well as snacks, balanced in protein, fat, and carbs,and if you are trying to lose weight, very low on the carbs, at least for most people.
Yo-yo-ing one's blood sugar levels is hard on the adrenals,and can have serious long term effects.

Complex unrefined carbohydrates work well for me, if I eat a bowl of refined cereal I'm hungry in an hour! 100% whole wheat toast or bagels with a LITTLE real butter or olive oil spread and a piece of fruit last till lunch time. In the winter months, a bowl of real oatmeal (not that crap in the little packets) with a little butter and a touch of honey is great.I have to avoid all liquid dairy products due to lactose intolerance, and animal flesh flairs up my joint trouble, so 100% whole grain products are a mainstay of my diet.

I agree some with earthmamma and annie. If I eat something like pancakes, cold or hot cereal with sugar, or donuts. I will be starving in two hours and you better not get in my way. But if I eat bacon and eggs or something more solid I can just about go the rest of the day without anymore food.(If I had to, that is)

I found that if I eat just oatmeal I get hungry again soon, but if I add toast (homemade bread, of course!) and maybe a bit of jam, I can go longer until eating again. When we don't have to leave home we often have elevenses (coffee, toast or sweet bread) & have our biggest meal around 2PM.
