Updated on 2001-11-03 00:01:36 KABUL November 03 (PNS): Taliban on Friday executed opposition commander Hamid Karzai and an American national on treason charges, a report from Ariana News Agency quoted.
The commander and an unidentified American national were hanged in JalalAbad on Friday morning where Taliban Officials confirmed Commander Hamid's execution but gave no specific details of American foreigner.
Taliban had arrested prominent opposition leader Commander Hamid Karzai on Thursday from Doharat mountains in the province of Orzagan along with twenty-five of former king Zahir Shah's major supporters and it was suspected that an execution sentence would be awarded as was conferred to earlier detained supporters of the king.
Charges levied on the Commander Hamid were similar to previously executed Abdul Haq, who was trying to seek support for former exiled king Zahir Shah under United States' umbrella.
