The 2000 AME Doctrine & Disciplinegreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
I finally picked up my copy yesterday and have begun reading thru some of the sections. There are several observations I would like to make for community feedback. First, I believe future editions would benefit from having a page or two describing the highlights of the new edition. This is standard publishing practice because it informs the reader why this edition differs from its predecessor edition, thus warranting current purchase. Second, I thought the past Disciplines were available in paperback. If my recollection is true, this option should also be available for the 2000 edition. Again, standard publishing practice typically offers readers a paperback version as another marketing strategy to distinguish their books from competitive rivals. Finally, if no significant changs and/or upgrades are incorporated in the latest edition, it is time to consider making the AME Doctrine & Discipline available online. If Bibles are available online, so should the AME Doctrine and Discipline. QED

Bill, You have so many good ideas. If we could only move in that direction. I fear that we will have to have a complete change [read that revoltion] before most of those are incorporated. If you have access to Discipline that were published 30 or 40 years ago you will find that they were much better than what is being published today. In the beginning the Discipline was designed to be similiar to a Constitution, that is a living document to be interpreted but changed very little. It was not to deal in specifics, etc. However we have made so many changes and tried to address every issue such that the document has become cumbersome at the very least. Pray that minds will be opened and we can do at least some of those GOOD ideas.Blessings,
Pastor Paris

I agree with Mr. Dickens in updating the format of the Discipline. With today's technology and so many gifted people in the AME Church who know and do this modern technology on a daily bases, there's no reason we cannot have the updated formats e.g. paperback edition, Disipline online.

Well, apparently because of new technology, at least, we did get the new Discipline in just over a year after the GenCon.Quite true, a summary of changes would be a GREAT enhancement.

Another feature I would recommend to enhance "reader-friendly" quality is to make a select number of Disciplines available in a large-print edition for AME members who have vision handicaps. Many publishers of Bibles allow for this accomodation and print large- print editions. I'm certain many of our elderly members would benefit from having the Discipline available in similar format.
