My five acre parcel about two miles south of High Springs, Florida has an old railway bed that runs across it. The current active track is about one mile east of the old bed. I would like to know when the track was in use, when it was removed, and if anyone has an old map of the former track, that I might be able to purchase at least a copy. Unfortunately the High Springs Railroad Museum closed down before I moved here.

also, for some reason, microsoft internet explorer may try to make the images smaller than they actually are. If anyone knows how to disable this annoying feature, let me know. I purposely scanned these things to be large for greater detail, and IE seems to be screwing it up...

if it is east of high springs, it is either:

the ex-SAL line from alachua to budda OR the ex-ACL line from alachua to high springs

i can post maps, but it will take a couple days, i need to scan them in. The railroads in that area are so changed its hard to tell. SCL really changed things in the 70's and 80's up there. I used to live in gainesville.

I believe that the old roadbed you are referring to is that of the Seaboard Air Line RR. Not sure when it was pulled up, but it ran East- West from Alachua, through Amo, south of High Springs to Buda, and ended at a place called Norwillis.(A branch also extended westward from Buda to Wannee on the Suwannee River.) The current RR running south from High Springs to Newberry (CSX) was formerly the Atlantic Coastline RR. I am sure others more knowledgeable than me will chime in with additional info.
