Pilot's car stolen at Newark Airport

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities continued to search early Tuesday for an airline pilot's car that was stolen at Newark International Airport.

Port Authority police would only confirm that the car was taken sometime Monday. They referred all calls to the FBI, which is investigating the theft.

It was unclear whether any of the pilot's equipment was in the vehicle. Calls made to an FBI spokeswoman were not immediately returned.

Newark is considered by some to be the car theft capitol of the US. Cars are routinely stolen there every day. The airport parking lots are very popular for such thefts. The fact that it was a pilot's car probably is of no significance. Some pilots are very highly paid and drive the latest and best new cars. So what kind of car was it? Surely not some old junker. Also, I can't think of anything that would be available in a pilot's car that wouldn't be easily obtainable in other ways, especially for people as sophisticated as the ones who engineered the Sept 11 incidents.

Some pilots are very highly paid and drive the latest and best new cars.

Actually, it is usually their ex-wives that drive those. pilots and captains have a tendency to mess around while out of town, and the divorce rate is high for that field of employment.

At least, it was back when my dad was flying. He was a flight engineer, so of course that tendency didn't affect him. LOL

The fact that my parents are still together after fifty years makes us a bit different from lots of other people. sort of a minority, ya know? LOL

If the pilot was on a flight he wouldn't have left anything in his car as he would need that stuff while working...no they do not have extra stuff. A flight bag, a suitcase and that's it. A flight bag is like a double thick brief case. It fits on the suitcase which has its own wheels. If you see any flight crew that have more, then they are morons who don't know how to pack. Or they were shopping while out of town.

Pilot's Keys & Uniform Are Stolen

etliner cockpit keys, a uniform and a passport belonging to an American Airlines pilot are missing from his car, which was stolen from a Newark Airport parking lot more than a week ago, authorities said yesterday.

Police recovered the 1996 Acura Integra last Wednesday, but no red flags were raised because the car hadn't been reported stolen and cops didn't know the owner was a pilot.

The pilot called police yesterday when he couldn't find the car in Lot F at the airport, where he left it Oct. 19.

Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said detectives haven't interviewed the pilot and don't know why he left uniform, keys and passport in the car — or where he went. "I assume he was out of town," Coleman said, "but we don't know if it was a vacation or business."

He said there was no suspicion "at this point" that the theft was linked to possible terrorist activity.

American Airlines spokesman John Hotard declined to say which aircraft the cockpit keys were for.

"The only thing I can tell you is that we have security procedures in place so that we know who's in the cockpit," he added.

Hotard said he was unable to identify the pilot or say why his uniform and keys had been left in the car.

Put him on the top of the cut list when the airline scales back.
