From The Tennessean a couple of days ago:

- A tablespoon in soapy dishwater removes strong odors such as onions.

- Mustard acts like plaster, so make a paste of mustard and spread on the back of a loose tile to secure it to the wall.

- Combine mustard with herds and seasonsing such as thyme, basil, oregano, tarragon, chili powder, cumin and curry for marinades.

- Use as fertilizer for better-colored daffodils.

- Sprinkle mustard over ant trails, and they won't cross the line. Mustard is too hot for them.

- A pinch of mustard in a glass of water often can stop hiccups.

- To temporary mend a leaky car radiator, pour in contents of a 2-ounce tin of dried mustard while the car is running. (If the car is French, you may need to use Grey Poupon.)

- Use mustard as a dip for pretzels, cheese cubes, chicken nuggets, fruits and vegetables.

Anyone else have some unusual uses for mustard?

(When I was a kid I use to love mustard, until I saw the diapers being changed on a young baby.)

Answers

Anyone familiar with using boiling hot water to mix up mustard powder to get "hot" mustard (ala chineese hot mustard) and using cold water for "regular" mustard. The hot water works, it'll burn the hairs out of your nose, haven't tried cold water yet.

Mustard Poultice : Spread a thick layer of lard on a paper towel. Sprinkle dry mustard in a square about the size of the chest to be applied to. (Lots of mustard). Top with another paper towel. Put a piece for flannel on the chest then the poultice then wrap the chest in a towel to hold the heat in. Never place the mustard side of the poultice on a bare chest cuz you'll get a burn.
