When I arrived home very early Thursday morning, there was a 200 feral hog in the middle of the road right where I turn off for my place.

Feral hogs are a bigger danger than deer because they will cause a fastmoving car or truck to flip.

Are they a problem elsewhere? If so, what is being done about them?

Call the state Game Department and ask about culling them. We have seen pig traps (legal in Texas), that capture 30 or more pigs at a time (Who has that much spare freezer room?). I agree, wild hog are a mixed blessing, especially to those who have to drive through 'em.

You know, I read a letter in a National Geographic from someone who was complaining that feral hogs (in this case on pacific islands where they have driven many native species to extinction) should deserve "protected" status, rather than being rooted out hoof and snout from those places they have invaded and become a menace.

Obviously this person had never met a wild boar in person ...
