Digital Photography and Pentax 67II

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

Having seen the threads about scanning from P67 and P67II images, it occurs to me that I have not heard any suggestion of a digital back... Yes, I'm musing on possibilities again!!!

Some other medium format systems (mostly 645 systems) have readily available digital backs. The P67 and P67II have Polaroid backs available. Does anyone know of any way of getting a digital back for a P67II? Would anyone use one?

Pentax was to make a fullframe 6 megapixel 35mm SLR body that could use lenses from pentax 135mm, 645 and 67 but they have cancelled it so it is not likely that they will make anything for only 645 or 67. The biggest sensor today is Kodak’s 4x4cm so there is a long way to go in making a 6x7. You can read about this here: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0110/01102401pentaxdslrnomore.asp

"Pentax has cancelled its 6 megapixel digital SLR. A prototype of this long awaited full frame 6 megapixel digital SLR was seen (and handled) by us in the flesh at PMA 2001, although at the time it was particularly unstable. Pentax UK has today issued this statement, "The cost of manufacturing the prototype SLR 6-megapixel digital camera meant it was not a viable product for our target market. However, we have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in the development of this prototype which will ensure technological innovation in future Pentax digital products."

Ed, I have wondered the same thing for some time now. I shoot with a Nikon D1 and D1x at work and wish there was a digi back for my 67II. I would love to use my 35mm fisheye in a digital world. I believe it will happen some day! We will just have to keep our fingers crossed! Randy Darst
