Now, a few years later, the question pop up into my head wondering if Edgar Allan Poe is really related to me? So,I need your help. Neither Poe nor his siblings had any children. His larger family, uncle for example, had more success. Check geneaology sites on the net for your extended clan. Some are active online and can help with researching roots back to Poe's grandfather, etc. Curious things sometimes arise like the passing on of family first names down through the generations, the ability to trace movements and branches. I wish I could remember the name of the sight I used to research the Vredenburgh family that was mentioned in Poe's novel. If you try on your own without finding other clan members to help you will have a long and difficult task.

geneaology.com, of course! Use a biography to get some of Poe's relatives. There was more than one pioneer branch of the Poe family too and of course some later Poes might have used the famous name of the writer. Allan was married to his aunt, therefore is not a blood relation, nor did Allan have any children by his aunt.

Edgar Allen Poe was not a biological Poe. he took the name after staying with a family of Poes when he was ill. He found favor with the family and wanted to feel that he belonged to it, therefore he took it as his surname in his writings. i also had a Literature professor in college verify and expand on this.

Edgar Allan Poe certainly was the son of David Poe. The family which adopted him after he was orphaned was the Allan (not Allen) family, hence the middle name.
