VCD created using Nero 5.5 doen not run on DVD or PC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I created a VCD using Nero 5.5. It created the VCD with out any problem. But I can't run it on my Pioneer DVD player or on my PC using Microsoft media player. If I try to play the VCD in DVD, it gets recognised as CD ROM and not as VCD.

I used pioneer 12x CD -R media to create VCD. Can any one help me out here.

Did you burn the VCD using the VCD settings in Nero? Is so, is compliance checking turned on? Your PC might not be able to play the VCD because it may lack the MPEG-1 codec it needs to play it. You can try installing the Elecard MPEG player from www.elecard.com and see if that enables you to play the VCD. You will have to manually load the video file into the player from the MPEGAV directory on the VCD to play it. With regards to your Pioneer DVD player, you might go to www.vcdhelp.com and look at the DVD player compatibility list to see if your Pioneer DVD player has problems with CD-R media. I know that Pioneer has good support for CD-R and CD-RW media on the DVD players they sell in the USA, but if you live somewhere else, your player might not support CD-R at all.

I have a similar problem - I converted an avi file to MPEG VCD quality using Pinnacle Studio DV software and then used Nero 5.5 to burn it. The VCD has come out OK and it plays without any hitch in a Sony VCD player. The problem is that when I put it in my PC CD ROM, the CD ROM refuses to recognise it. It simply says..Drive is not ready. When I put it in my Samsung CD RW ROM, It recognises the CD and displays the file structure. What could be the problem? Please help.

I have the same problem too. I download a *.dat file from newsgroup. The *.dat file is ok and can be play using media player. When i try to burn it to VCD format using Nero 5.5 with default setting (ISO level-1, ISO 9660, ect.) The VCD burn ok, no error in burning process. I can be able to play that vcd using WinDVD 2000, but when i put the disc into my SAMSUNG DVD-M101 DVD player, the player said nodisc present. Any one know why? I already try all type of CDR media such as silver/silver, gold/gold, etc but still have that error message. Please help me ...!!! Thankyou

I am no way an expert on this but. As far as playing VCD's on a DVD player, some can read CD-R and some can Read CD-RW mine can only read CD-RW. With Nero as i found out when you make a VCD make sure you use the CD-I option. One out of 4 movies I burned didn't work because I forgot to put the CD-I info on it.
