For those interested in non-hybrid seeds, try Willhite Seeds. They sell both hybrid and non-hybrid seeds, but the two are clearly separated. They have good seed at good prices. They at least used to can the seed for you also if you wanted it done that way. That would make it come to you like the garden centers and feed stores get seeds like squash seeds, etc. I've had it done in the past (pre-Y2K) and they only charged .75 for the can, plus the extra shipping for the weight of the can. I really believe you could save quite a bit of money this way.

Here's one that I bought a bunch from for Y2K they had several package options and shipped quickly. The seeds all germinated well except for some lettuce, but that was most likely weather related. I reccomend them.

A great source of heirloom seeds is to make friends with older folks. I am now making sure I go to our local flea market every weekend to hang out with and get to know many of the elders well enough that they are sharing some of their old varieties with me. And the best part of it is we all like sitting around jawin' about gardens. And as one of the elders said, this way the seed carries on.

My favorite place is Sand Hill Preservation Center, 1878 230th Street, Calamus, Iowa, 52729-9659 or (563)246-2299 for free catalog. Heirloom seeds and poultry, and there must be 50 different types of sweet potatoes!

Try www.willhiteseeds.com. And Sand Hill is a good source, although they are prone to crop failures and as they grow most of the seeds themselves, that makes some seeds unavailable at times.
