I do enjoy the weather of Fall, especially those nice cool nights; so great for sleeping. I enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves and the fact that the larder is stocked with delicious homegrown fruits and vegetables. I love the smell of apples and grapes in the air.

I'm not crazy about the impending winter with snow and ice but it is a good time to "mend harnesses" as DH and I refer to in-door projects like quilting and workshop projects.

What do you like best about this time of year?

The weather, hands down. Those 60 degree days and those nights with just a hint of frost. Low humidity. Shorter days, so we don't feel like we must labor until dark. It is natures way of slowing us down a little.

Tomorrow night it is supposed to be in the 30's here. Just what I like.

Like others have said, the fall colors, the smell of wild cranberries, the warm indian summer days and cooler nights, but most of all, I can't get enough of the leaves changing colors. I drive throughout a major portion of Western Canada, the Yukon and Alaska, and I can honestly say that I never tire of watching the trees. I was just commenting today that I was sad to see the leaves falling. Not because winter is coming, but that the beauty was so short lived.

Can't say I'm crazy about all the canning, pickling, and freezing that fall brings, but I sure like the looks of all that produce sitting proudly on the pantry shelf.

Like walks down a sandy country road in the late afternoon with my dog. Like to watch the sheep grazing peacefully in the green grass. Like to watch the older calves playing football without a football. Like to hear the whirr of a qual my dog has scared up. Like watching a Spring fawn trying to get the nerve to jump a fence, and then running away to find something shorter. Like to watch the shadows chase the sunlight through the trees and up the thunder clouds. Like to listen to the turkeys telling each other good night.

Like the softness of Fall, the year growing older with grace and dignity. Like the lesson of letting go that Fall teaches. Unlike Spring, which often gets into fights with both Winter and Summer, Fall, being more mature, merges with each.

In North Florida what I like best about Fall is that the temperature and humidity will begin to moderate. This generally equates to my personal energy level and iniative rising and getting out and doing things! I'm a Florida native for many generations but even for me August is just a month to get through with as little damage as possible.

The smell of apples. Not the ones in the house, but the really ripe ones that fall on the ground under the trees and heat in the sun. Just a heavenly smell! The mist in the morning when you go after the cows and the sun is coming up it looks like you are in some totally foreign place. The sky being at least 6 times bluer than it seems the rest of the year. The knowledge that the major work of the year is done, and that you did it successfully one more time. Then, the two absolutely BEST things about fall, the summer people and the flies are both gone! LOL! I love fall, it's really the nicest time of the year.
