Brake Problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

I am having serious problems with the front end brakes. My bike suffers from strong "fading" effect till the point that I have no brakes !!! That happens to me specially when riding on track or after intense road use. I think that it should not happen because the bike comes OE with metal brake lines and six piston calippers, so I do not understand what is going on. Can somebody help?

PS - Regarding the "Which tyres?" question, I'm using Pirelli Evo Corsa 120/60 and 180/55. They are wonderful!

I believe there is a factory upgrade that is covered under warranty for brakes. It is only available if you ask the dealer and not a "recall" situation. Please provide details if you pursue this.

Can anybody expand on this brake issue under warranty? I have not had any issue with my breaks yet, but I really have not put enough miles on my MV nor am I very demanding on them. However, I don't want to have a break system that does not perform as it should regardless. Has anybody here have their brakes replaced under warranty? Who did you talk to, did you receive any documentation from MV / Cagiva in order to be able to do this replacement under warranty?

Thanks, and info will be greatly appreciated.

I believe the 'upgrade' consists of new discs, resovoir, and master cylinder internals. They are only available if your dealer agrees that your brakes have a 'fading' problem, not just all round crap brakes. Mine is in at the moment for other stuff and they will be test riding to check the brakes, only how they can do this I don't know, cos they only fade when used hard and its gonna rain all week ????

simple but expensive: Brembo RULES and Nissin sucks!

The problem I had was that after a weeks normal riding, I could pull the handle against the steering half. My dealer said that, according to MV, some bikes suffer this problem. The reason is that there is an air entry between the reservoir and the pump. The reservoir has now been replaced under warranty last week and I am now testing the result.

When the brakes feel to spungy, then you should replace the brake oil. My dealer has done it already on mine and the result was very positive. Important is, that my dealer has a pneumatic driven pump, which sucks the oil from the reservoir through the whole brake system.

There will shortly be a recall in UK to replace the master cylinder and calipers on some bikes, apparently there were some machining problems and air is able to enter the system.

This might be a little late to ask but I just bought an MV model 2001 from a friend and the only thing I don't like from the byke are the spungy brakes. For those who performed the recall what were your experiences. Part numbers if possible. The guy from the dealership here has no clue.

Thanks. I will appreciate any help.
