Has anyone here raised any Orpingtons besides the Buffs. A friend of mine is bringing me some white orpingtons in a month or two. I love orpingtons and Brahmas. Does anybody else know of some other Big, quiet, chickens that will set?

We had really good luck with Australorps, not quite as big as the Brahmas, but about the size of the Orpingtons, I think. They lay very well, a nice big egg, and out of maybe a dozen hens, we had two or three dependable setters. Ours were excellent mothers, and quite docile.

I have white orpingtons and buffs. I find them very docile, friendly birds. They have seemed to lay well this summer, although, I haven't had them very many months to tell you anything about their "mothering" habits. I raised the Australorps for 4 years before these, and absolutely love them! Can't praise their qualities enough. In His Grace, Sissy
