The Georgia, Carolina & Northern Railway was chartered in 1887 and completed, Monroe, NC, to Atlanta, GA, on April 24, 1892. While under construction, it was leased (on July 1, 1889), to the Seaboard Air-Line System (not to be confused with the later Seaboard Air Line Railway Company.) The GC&N was merged into the SAL Railway Company when it was formed on July 1, 1900. The SAL, of course, was merged into the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad on July 1, 1967.

The GC&N operated the Loganville & Lawrenceville Railroad under contract from 1898 until 1900 when the SAL absorbed the smaller road undler lease. The SAL purchased the L&L in 1902.

Tucker, Georgia, was the highest point on the former Seaboard Air Line Railway.
