DH just got home. He's 20 mins from NY and I was afraidgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread |
My husband commutes an hour to work to where we used to live. He is a police officer and EMT. He has a post on one of the major highways 20 minutes from New York City. When I heard about the two planes crashing into the towers, I thought he might be sent for mutual aide. When I heard about the collapse, I worried and could not get him on his cell phone. Close to 300 police and firemen are unaccounted for. They decided not to go because they couldn't get into the city. He did have to work over his shift and finally called me to let me know. (He rushed out, leaving his cell phone behind) He could see the damage from his post. You know, I wanted to move because, deep down, I knew we were too close to NYC if something should happen.

How nerve wracking for you, Dee! I'm so glad he's okay!

Dee, I'm so glad that he's okay. That must have been very frightening for you.Tonight, at one of our local community gatherings, I met up with some of our local firefighters. They are putting up a good front, but deep down, they are really grieving for the loss of their brothers and sisters in NYC. This is tough on everyone.

I'm very glad to hear that he is alright Dee!! When I heard the news today, I was stunned, and then started running around in circles -- mentally and physically -- and I'm a good thousand miles away.

Dee...you must have been beside yourself with terror when you could not contact him!! Thank God that he is home safe and sound. So many of the fire fighters and police officers did not get out when the towers collapsed!

I was really a mess yesterday; my co workers and I were gravitating from our computers to the t.v. watching all the carnage wrought by those germs. I'm better today, but am not too confident that all is over yet. So many people gone . . . it is truly a day of morning for all U. S. citizens. We all have been targeted and there isn't a whole lot we can do about itExcept to find the guilty people and deal with them.
Very happy to hear your husband is safe. I just hope the other spouses can find some comfort in the fact that their loved ones died trying to help others from the wreckage. Truly selfless acts. They will be remembered as heroes to us all.
