Vivitar RL Edition 24mm f/2.0greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread |
Anyone familiar with this lens or what the Vivitar "RL Edition" lenses are all about? My local camera store has a used one available and the 2.0 seems like it should be bright. Any idea on what it is worth? This will be used on canon AE-1P.Thanks in Advance.

I'm afraid I have vicarious answers only. Mcbrooms quotes a price range from $60 to $100 for exc to mint condition. I would lean towards the lower end myself. I haven't seen the 'RL' term anywhere before. As an aside, I have both the vivitar 28f/2 and the Canon SSC 28f2. IMHO the vivitar is a good lens for $60. It has good color, perhaps a bit more contrast than the Canon. It doesn't have the corner sharpness of the Canon especially at closer distances as the Canon has a floating element system to improve performance. I don't know if the vivitar 24f/2 does either but if it does it would be worth consideration.
Cheers,
Duane

Well- can't help with the specifics, especially pricing, as you in the US always seem to get enormous bargains compared with us in the UK!I would add though 1. that my Vivitar lenses have always been solid performers, even if not imaginatively styled, and 2. that I own a Sigma 28 f1.8 that is stunning in design and performance, an aspherical design lens that is- if I have one- my 'standard' lens!

Hello Mike, This reply may be about 5 months to late regarding the day that you entered the question. Regarding the Vivitar RL Edition lense. I have a Vititar RL Edition 28-80mm Zoom 1:3.5-4.5 I bought it new back in the mid to late 1980's along with a new Minolta X-700 camera. It has been a very good performing lens. I have recently been trying to find out where the RL Edition was located in the Vivitar lens lineup back then as I never was sure. I recently put an e-mail inquiry on Vivitar's web site. They did not bother to answer me back. So much for their customer service (or customer no-service). If you or anyone else have any more info on this series lens ,then please let me know. I have used several other Vivitar lenses and they all seem to do real well. Thanks John Ellis

I just bought a Nikon FG with the Vivitar 28-80mm f3.5-4.5 "RL Edition". I can't find anything online about this lense. Does anyone know if this is a AI-S lense? Thanks, Kyle
