The Official Website of the AME Church, amecnet.orggreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Does anyone know why this site never has current information? Is there any movement being made toward making the official website of our church a usable tool? I'm appalled and embarrassed every time I check the site for information. It's always a waste of time. Rev. John, do you have any insight regarding this issue?

To see wh this site is not up-to-date I refer you to Page 655 of the Doctrine and Discipline of the AME Church, Connectional Budget. You will note that $0.00 was allocated for Web Site Administration. I think we are getting what we pay for.Blessings,
Pastor Paris

I was at least glad to see that there is some information about the recent Lay Biennial under "church events" but this is the exception rather than the rule. At one of the 13th district meetings (either post conference or mid-year I can't remember which) Dr. Fugh said there was going to be renewed effort to make the web sit a more useful tool but as yet there has been no prgress. The fact is the site should be considered an embarassment to all AME's in this digital age and to the posters on this board in particular as we clearly spend a lot of time online. But Pastor Paris is right we are getting what we are paying for. The African Methodist Epicopal Church must do better and it needs to start with us.

Don't be too hard on the WebServant for the http:/www.amecnet.org. This man is hosting, building and maintaining that web out of his pocket. And that is not the only site he is doing that for. Here, in the 10th Episcopal District, Bishop Young has established a Faith, Technology, and Media Relations committee, whose charter among other things is to establish standards for church web site in the 10th Episcopal District. You can visit the 10th Episcopal District Web Site: http://www.amec-10thdist.org and get more information on this. I maintain this site. One of the problems I face is getting timely information for the site. My goal is to get the information released here simultaneous with the normal distribution. Also, we don't have enough "reporters" to send the information to me. For example, one of our leading pastors died in June. I didn't learn of his death until August. It seems that many of us in Texas still depend on word-of- mouth to pass information.
Blessings,
Pastor Paris

I actually have another question. Does anyone know why there was not an appropriation for website administration in the connectional budget?
