In our decalogue love is lifted up. How do we begin to love God with all of our hearts and to love one another. Please be specific, with prayers, scripture etc.

Dear Rev. Rogers,

I like what Bro. Robert Matthews said in an earlier post about love. He said that " Love is not trying to re-create another in ones own image but instead it is looking at the image that God has made and saying amen". Wow, that is so profound and it gives me peace!

Jesse Duplantis said an interesting thing. He said the reason he loves people is because they look like God. The reason he loves himself is because he looks like God. Since we are made in His image, we see Him every time we look in the mirror or look at another human being. And if we love God, then it ought to be an easy leap to love our fellow human beings!

It's a simplistic rationalization, but most of the best things in life are simple!

Love ye one another is the commandment from Jesus. First before we can love someone else, we must first know that God loves me for who I am, therefore, I will be able to love myself and others. If only we could remember the words of Jesus, then we would not get so caught up in the ways of humankind. Love is essential to a happy and wonderful life. If we loved as Jesus loved and tells us to love, imagine what the AME Church or any denomination would look like. The Church would be alive in every community, seeking out and reaching out to everyone. I believe that inspite of it all God still loves us, regardless, I am thankful. As the song writer wrote "More love to thee, Oh Christ, More love to thee."

The FIRST and great commandent is to "Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart mind and soul." Only then can we start to love one another. If we go back and study the creation story in Genesis, when we get to God breathing into Adam the breath of life, we can begin to love God, our Creator.
