greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

Here is the thread I promised......if you would like a sample preaching schedule on the books.....I can send you that via e-mail.

BTW.....don't know how it's going to look once I post this......so just be patient and read through it. You can then copy and paste to a Word format.

Bible book of the month

DEFINITION: One book of the Bible (sometimes groups of small books) is studied each month. All the sermons and one Sunday night lesson are taught on that month’s book or group of books. We will study through the Bible in four years.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Members receive recognition in the church newsletter if all the following are accomplished: 1) Read all of the book (or listened to the audio-tapes). 2) Present for all sermons. (An individual may miss one entire Sunday or two sermons.) Note: Work or hospitalization will be the only acceptable excuses for missing. 3) Fill out the Study Question sheet over the book. 4) Attend the Sunday night lesson: Bible Book of the Month Study Night. This will normally be held on the last Sunday evening of each month. Note: Work or hospitalization will be the only acceptable excuses for missing.

Of course this is all on the Honor System.

At the end of the year there will be a special morning service that recognizes those who have participated in Bible Book of the Month for at least one month of study. Those who have participated at least one month will receive recognition and a certificate. For those who receive recognition for 11 out of 12 months of study there will be a certificate and a plaque or trophy awarded. Plaques and trophies are awarded as follows: 1 Year—Workman Apprentice 2 Year—Approved Workman 3 Year—Superior Workman 4 Year—Fellow Workman The higher the award, the more attractive the plaque or trophy is made to look in accord with the level of achievement.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM? 1. Serious study of the Word of God. 2. The whole Bible is studied. See how it all fits together. 3. Help build your library. 4. Variety within continuity. 5. Growth: Both the preacher and the congregation. 6. Outreach: People want to hear good Bible preaching. 7. Builds faithfulness to the Lord. 8. Stirs interest in books for further study. 9. A feeling of pride and accomplishment.
