Daggonnit.I said that I WOULD NOT get involved in something like this again. Y2K should have been enough for me. But like a moth drawn to the flame (or a lemming to his own doom?) I can't help myself.
First, an apology: I said in the Jones Thread below that I'd start this new thread as soon as I finished there. To be honest, I first spent a couple of fascinating days (between the usual hectic work chores, of course -- we're still installing that new computer system) browsing the Web on "conspiracy theories," "NWO" and stuff like that so that I could get a "feel" of what's going on there.
Second, the parallels to Y2K are astounding. In Y2K, North would link to Hamasaki, Lord would link to North and Yourdon, MacAlvaney would link to Lord and Hamasaki and Karen Anderson would link to all of the above. It was a gigantic circle-circus of reinforcing the same opinion over and over.
From what I've seen so far, the same is true here. There are a few key sources who are linked to a zillion times all over the Web. Everyone links to everyone else. So ... the IMPRESSION ( <- don't miss that word!) of veracity is created. "Hey, if THAT many people are saying the same thing, there must be somethin' to it!"
No, it just proves that any moron with a copy of FrontPage(tm) and a free Web account at HackersHeaven.com can repeat what the original guy said, with his/her own spin on it.
Now: to start this off, let me tell you about conspiracy theories in general. Generally speaking, I take a VERY cynical and jaded view toward them. I'll admit; this is one case where I AM predjudiced before the fact. Be warned: if you come to me with anything resembling, smelling of, tasting like, or even borrowing the appearance from, a "conspiracy," I'm going to pop back and study on you as you speak. Yes, I admit that up front.
Can't help it.
Not only does life itself teach us that conspiracies rarely work (at least, not the way the original conspirators hoped it would), to paraphrase Ben Franklin, a secret is no longer a secret as soon as two people know it.
One thing that should have clued the Doomers in on Y2K was the fact that there WASN'T a great Geek Migration. There WEREN'T dozens of programmers complaining about how their computers WOULD blow up on January 1st and that they were being TOLD to lie about it.
When the Doom Leaders were faced with failed predictions in January, 1999; Feb 1999; April 1, 1999; et. al., that was a MAJOR clue. They handled it by making a claim that was utterly preposterous (and should have been Clue Number Two for the poor Doomlits): that failure HAD occurred and/or were occurring, but were being "covered up."
See above. It's NOT POSSIBLE to keep a secret that large. If there were THAT many serious failures -- enough to portend Doom for January, 2000 -- it would have been IMPOSSIBLE to hide them.
Carry that thinking over to these conspiracy theories, and you're halfway there, Buh'wheat, because the same principle applies.
I once had a business associate who was a former CIA field spook. He would laugh at the mere mention of the word "conspiracy." He said that, even in the most repressed societies; even in the tightest, most blood-bonded fraternities, there would ALWAYS be someone who talked. Always.
In this first screed, I'll finish with a quick look at the Chemtrails/Contrails madness. For those of you who aren't familiar with this one, some people (actually) believe that the US Government is sowing biological and/or chemical agents amongst the general population via airplanes. The stated purpose is to keep the Sheeple "docile."
Technical Problem #1: even if the US military commandeered every commercial airliner and put its entire fleet into operation 24/7, it would take months to blanket enough of the population with enough of the chemical/biological agent to actually make a difference on the large scale.
Technical Problem #2: CPR is our resident math major, so I'll let him do the numbers (if he wants to). But I want you to imagine that a plane is carrying 10,000 lbs of chemical. It MUST fly at a couple of hundred miles per hour, and it MUST be at LEAST 2,000 feet in the air (and in fact, it will generally be travelling much faster and many, many times that high).
If our plane releases these chemicals the way that the theorists claim (visible contrails that seem to "hang in the sky for some time"), there is no way that a single airplane could release enough chemical to affect even a small neighborhood. It would disperse into such a low concentration that it wouldn't matter.
(As proof of that, watch a crop duster sometime. He must make SEVERAL passes over the farmer's field to ensure that enough chemical lands on the crop. In fact, if it's a large field, he must refill his tanks several times. He might spend DAYS dusting a really large farm.)
(So ... once the theorists finally come up with pictures of unmarked military planes making, NOT occasional single flights, but multiple passes -- so many that it's impossible not to notice -- THEN I might listen to them. Not before.)
But all of these things ignore a really big problem.
See if you can figure out what it is and beat me to the punch ... erm, post. My fingers are tired; I'm taking a break. :)

Oh. I forgot to explain that "daggonnit."I have decided, after much ponderance, to create a new section on my Web site to give these wierd conspiracy theories the Standard Poole Treatment(tm). Complete with cartoons and dancing pigs and you name it.
OK, I'll admit it: maybe I was getting bored. I need to have some fun again. :)

Stephen--In general, I agree. Maintaining a successful, enormous, secret conspiracy over a long period of time is impossible.
Having said that, it should be acknowledged that for the better part of the 20th century, International Communism was a fairly successful world conspiracy. For the first 50 years of its existence, people who should have known better were in denial (or in collaboration).

Stephen you haven't learned a DAMN thing pal.NOBODY cares for Debunking. NOBODY cares for the truth.
People want to be lied to. They want to believe in little green men and planes spraying chemtrails. They want to believe their President not the blithering idiot he is.
Don't think so? look around, does it look like most give a rats gazoo about getting real?
Seriously, reading your screed makes me want to go out and get linked to Art Bell pronto.

International Communism was not a "conspiracy". It used conspiratorial methods to advance the spread of a Political/economic system through any method it saw fit. From military to internal collaborators/sympathisers.In reality, much of it was nothing more than a Socialistic version of "Imperialism" as in "We are the best gov. system".
In the end, it collapsed because like all such systems dependent upon expansion it was also dependent upon financing and could not compete with the US,Saudi, Western Europe, or Japanese alternatives. China will have to compromise with Capitalism and Free Enterprise or it to will be left behind ala: CUBA. I doubt China will be left behind and therefore they will make the compromises.
In the end, most systems will end up in a form of State Socialism /Free Enterprise that is found in Europe and in particular the Scandanavian Nations. And even then, when they produce a winner such as Finland's Nokia, they move to the US and more specifically, DALLAS, Tx. home of the Business Based City.
Even the Golfers move here. Witness Anika Sorenstam and her sister. Anika went to U. of Ariz. and stayed in the area. The Brits prefer Florida hoping it will get the eternal dampness of the U.K. out of their bones.

FYI, attacks against Bohemian Grove have been going on since the 1960s when it came out that Barry Goldwater was going there along with the Leftist Establishment. Someone aligned with the Birchers pointed to it as "proof" that there was the "Establishment" that was really running EVERYTHING behind the scenes.Sort of a small niche version of REMEMBER THIS: "The EBIL instruments of the DEBBIL hisself is behind the ...............MASONS.". (Goldwater was a 32nd Degree as was Harry Truman who with Marshall had sold us out to the Dreaded Commies along with Eisenhower the Birchers "conscious agent of the communist conspiracy".
ITS ALL JUST A REVAMP OF THE SAME "THEY CONTROL" and "THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE"........and THE TROOOOF IS AVAILABLE .......ONLY HERE for $19.95 and up. Once you start buying the BS, the fees start escalating because the HOOKIES start buying every thing to butress the House of Cards. Yes......it was just exactly like Y2k and the same sort of thinking that The Evil Roman Catholic Church is really behind that (unless you are the one who believes the First rule of the Roman Church and sides with the Pope but then you might buy into the heavily Protestant Masons being at the "root" of the Conspiracy. The Black Muslim Farrakhan Version for the Brothers is bad and in Y2k we found the TONY BROWN Y2k Conspiracy where Blacks would be destroyed because of the White Planned Y2k failures. (And PBS still airs without fumigation Tony Brown).
The weirdest is the RC and Fisher "Aliens embedded into Humans, 5000 years ago Conspiracy" Said super smart aliens are behind it all. YUP, just send in your money for the Book, Tape, Brochure, VCR, DVD, access to web site, SEND THAT MONEY BEFORE IT IS TOOOOOOOO LATE to save you and your loved ones.
The fact is this is the post Preppie College Good Ole Boys Business Government Network PARTY TIME. The button down/ striped tie club actually lets their beards grow for the time they are there. Imagine a US AF Reserve Colonel then General like Goldwater not shaving for one day.
All the "ceremonies" such as the "Burning of CARE" are aided greatly by large amounts of BOOZE.

CPR:International Communism was not a "conspiracy".
I haven't heard the term in a while. I remember it from my childhood. As a small kid, one of the first TV shows I remember was the Army hearings.
I had an Honors course in college. The title was American Communism. The first half of the semester we studied Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trot. etc. For the second half, they brought in this fellow named Gus Hall. After the second half of the semester, I never gave American Communism a second thought. Although, you should have heard the uproar over selecting that teacher [even made the NY Times].

One of the great laughs of all times was that the FBI infiltrated both the KKK and the Commie Party USA so well they were probably making the budgets of both organizations work. However, it should be noted that there was a vast difference between Hall's Commies (the real thing working for RUSSIA) and the American Academic ones who were shall we say "confirmed Socialists".
Where McCarthy went wrong and what brought his down fall is when he started picking on people who had EVERY RIGHT TO THEIR BELIEFS and were NOT capable of fighting back. He was a DRUNKEN BULLY and died from Alcohol Abuse almost as soon as the Senate turned their backs on him.
Behind the scenes it was Eisenhower who was INCENSED that McCarthy would DARE call Marshall a commie agent.
In the frong was a WOMAN: Sen. Margaret Chase Smith a powerful member of the Armed Services Committee who was leading the charge for the Armed Services who themselves were totally pissed off. ESPECIALLY since many of their men and even friends and peers had died in Korea.

CPR:Yep. Now this was a long time ago, so I don't remember the details. As I recall [from local papers], Hoover called the place a snake's nest of communists and said he would investigate. This is a college of 700 students. Probably didn't help that, although it was originally founded by a protestant church, it had more than 50% jewish students [remember the times and Hoover]; mostly from the New York City area. Don't know what he really did in the end. I know that they arrested one faculty member as a communist. They later released him and he came back to teach in the fall. In a few years he left for a University where he became an expert in eastern religions.
I remember it well enough and I don't want to see it repeated.
Best Wishes,,,,

At the core of our Freedoms lies the First Amendment that Jefferson forced into the Constitution in return for his support and endorsement of the entire Document. (He got the other 9 in there also.)But UNDER THAT of paramont importance whether we like it or not is "Academic Freedom" which is essential for Western Civilization and has been for over 500 years. All progress comes from that because it tolerates the right to question and the freedom to innovate.
Over the years the Bullies of Left and Right try to get on the other side of the Ivy Towers and impede or limit Academic freedom.
HOOVER at least, knew better but still tried a lot of intimidation because he had access to the Big Business funders of universities.
Hoover started as a great and dedicated Public servant. By 1945, he had so much information filed on people, it was only a matter of time before it went to his head. Hoover believed in ORDER over FREEDOM and that is one of the central conflicts in any society especially in a Democracy or a Democratic Republic.
At the end, Hoover abused his power. He ruined people and destroyed lives and careers. He was a master politician and he had the "dirt" on all the rest of them. He should have been forced to retire at 65 but nobody would even dare suggest it. After McCarthy (who he helped gain power by feeding McCarthy information), Hoover leaked stories into the Far Right Fringe and worse. He tolerated even the ultra Liberal Hubert Humphrey because Hoover knew it would be better to keep such people out in the open and powerless than mud wrestle with them. Hubert and the other Leftists like Stevenson never would say what had to be said, "get rid of J. Edgar".
With a sponsor like that inside the Federal Structure, it is easy to understand how a John Birch Society or any of the other "intellectual Far Rightists" could function. They always had "just enough info" for the "Conspiracy theories". And it is easy to imagine that Hoover enjoyed the progress such groups made. That created the foundations of all the splinter groups we know: Christian Coalition, JBS, and Banner wavers for every sort of weirdo idea on the Right. The Leftists only had a few friends with Power but they had money. The huge foundations with their Tax Sheltered money, funded many if not all of the radical and weird Leftist organizations. In Fact, one program on the Rockefellers on PBS detailed how in an almost guilt trip mode, the 3rd Generation "The Cousins" were funding the wildest groups in the 1968 and 70s time frame. Millions were spent to excoriate the "Barons of Big Business" which included their own families.

Lars,it should be acknowledged that for the better part of the 20th century, International Communism was a fairly successful world conspiracy.
Hmmm ... I'm going to pick nits here. (I'm not picking on YOU; I am merely, as is my wont from time to time, using your shoulders as a convenient soapbox. :)
I would ask: WHICH "international communism?" There were several different flavors. The Russian one was heavily seasoned with plain ol' Russian/Slavic nationalism.
The Chinese were a bit more ideological (on the surface, anyway). They often criticized the USSR for its "pragmatism" and realized early on that Stalin would sell them down the road in a skinny MINUTE if it would bring the Soviets an advantage.
And of course, Castro's version down in Cuba was basically just "grab all of Batista's money," followed by thuggery writ large. A similar thing could be said of most of the Central American incarnations of "communism."
North Korea's flavor is the most intriguing to me; it has evolved into an Eastern/Oriental religion, complete with a Bhudda/Holy Man at the top (i.e., the Great/Revered Leader).
And so on. If "international communism" was a conspiracy, it was one of the sorriest ones ever conceived or implemented.
Even in the Soviet union, you had different factions that fell out almost as soon as the thing got founded (have you forgotten how many purges both the Russians and Chinese have had over the years?).
The key for this discussion, though, is that there were no secrets; the writings of Marx, Engels and Lenin were well-published and well-read. The agenda was openly stated. There was no "conspiracy" in the sense of a monolithic group of people all working fanatically toward the same goal.
The *idea* (or ideology) of Communism had its day in the sun (and the sun is STILL shining for no few American college professors, who apparently haven't looked at a map in years[g]), but I think it's a stretch to call that a "conspiracy."
What I have in mind when I use that word is the classic, cloak-and-dagger thingie implied by the NWOlits: Secret meetings (complete with decoder rings!). An Agenda (capitalized out of reverence) for World Domination. The whole nine yards. I just don't see that in the "international communism" thingie.

Well, since you put it that way, lets insert the "revisionist" Conspiracy that was melded after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was based on the Super Conspiracy of "Them" ranging from Illuminati to Learned Elders (fraud) to today's NWO.As we know, the EVIL COMMIES were "THE Enemy". We armed, we prepared, we even had the super secret projects only a few Congressbodies and the Pres and inner circle knew about like NSA which answered only to NSA. ALL to "DEFEND US" from "The Godless Commies". We were "united" against all versions of the Commie Conspiracy and the China -Russo Rift? Fiction I tell you.
That set up the stage for a ton of Super Conspiracy thinking. From the Bankers run everything (favored by Leftist non-Commies usually poorer folk) to the "It Be Dah Papists,Knights of Malta, Masons, Who Be de Enemy". All GODLESS FORCES CONTROLLED BY.......The Evil One Hisself, DA DEBIL.
BUT....The Berlin Wall Falls. Now what? A bunch of the same weirdos of the Fringe now incorporated Communism under "Capitalism" which was "The Enemy" all the time. And Capitalism is only a tool for the Secular Humanist who "Hate God". (You have to read the stuff to really enjoy it. The Fisher, R.C. "Alien Implant" is the best with the version making the "Alien" into the Debil Hisself will have you on the floor. I'd but up links but really don't want to build traffic to such LOONIES. "Sightings" and others have them from time to time.) But even the Commie-Capitalism Merger is ONLY A FRONT for the Illuminati and the rest of the Super Conspiracies which weaved their Evil with the Knights Templar and the poor citizens of Malta who of course were working for the Bishop of Rome (aka: The Pope) and all of whom had steady employment in the GRAND CONSPIRACY since when? 64 A.D.? (Over look the detail that the shepards on Malta speak English unless you want to prove they are part of the British 12th Tribe (tripe) of Isreal (the LOST TRIBE aka: the REAL "Isrealites" refer to H. W. Armstrong spin offs for more).
In that little scheme, it was the "International Bankers" who sent Lenin and the CHOO-CHOO TWAIN from Germany to Russia to make the Russians git the CZAR "outda dere" and set up a Puppet Gov. for the Bankers who were worried that if the Germans spent too much fighting on 2 fronts in WW The First (the Big One), the Germans couldn't pay back (they didn't anyway).
STALIN was "The Man" and he was a tool of "THEM". Always and forever, there is DA PROOOOF. Mr. Armand Hammer (Occidental Petrol.) was the "go between" who arranged the business dealings for Stalin and the Ebil Bankers. As a reward, Hammer became rich beyond his dreams. More Proof of the Conspiracy but they can't seem to figure out how H.L. Hunt the notorious Anti=Commmie got RICHER with AWL and spent milliions funding all the Anti=Commie Church groups he could find (or that could find him and his checkbook.)
There never was any real socialist program in Russia. That was the Bankers propaganda. And ADOLF? Another hand picked member of the club whose job was to "do another war" so the Bankers could issue more bonds.
Alternate version drifts around (probably from Irish ignorante').
It was the ENGLISH BANKERS who controlled everything. They set up Morgan even Hamilton to control the Colonies and your freedom isn't real because you are a wage slave to the English Bankers who make the big Loans for US Bonds. (not Barry Bonds or the rock band).

OTOH, the other rallying point for the Red, Pink and Leftists: the "Julius and Ethel Rosenberg" case was rather straight forward. The error of the US was to execute them. They should have been sent away for ever and ever instead of being made into martyrs.

In the effort to establish a singular global government, the powers that be recognized that opposition to their plan would be evident and unavoidable. These opposition forces must certainly be neutralized and their voices squelched, if the socialists' plans to conquer the world were to be rendered successful.
How can one keep leaders from arising out of the teaming masses to speak out against the plan in favor of freedom? The diabolical would- be dictators understood the only way to accomplish this, was to create the perception that someone was already fighting the battle of liberty for them. Someone who both supported the plan, yet spoke out against it. Someone who would gain the trust of the masses, then employ diversionary tactics, leading them into tyranny.
These are the controlled opposition. They come in many different forms, and organizations, and purport to stand for various causes. Some fill pulpits, others occupy public offices. Several are broadcasters. All are deceivers.
They hammer at issues, are vocal about matters that appeal to conservatives, and even do some good deeds, but their efforts always fail to mobilize their supporters to take the right action, leading the few who see through their scheme to ask ...

Notes on Brer Duct Tape lead to something interesting. Just so you all will see some of the money flow (and this is peanuts vs. Dearest Brother Dobson's $130 Million dollar take annually).http://watch.pair.com/database2.html#gnorth
Dr. Gary North - CNP Board of Governors (1982). President of the Institute for Christian Economics and publisher of Christian Reconstruction. [Miller 6] Member of the Council of 56 of the Religious Roundtable. Y2K alarmist extraordinaire per Gary North's Y2K Links and Forums
Which goes here
http://www.pir.org/gw/rrt.txtCountries: USA
Funding: Funds come primarily from private contributions and memberships. Individual membership is $25, group membership is $100.(2) The Roundtable's 1986 tax return reflected income of $338,115 in 1982; $386,436 in 1983; $157,639 in 1984; $159,590 in 1985; and $163,132 in 1986. In 1986, $103,388 of the Roundtable's income went to Ed McAteer for salary and expenses. The return also notes a $30,000 loan from Nelson Bunker Hunt and a loan of $42,793 from D.G. Seago.(14)
Activities: In its statement of purpose the Religious Roundtable lists its activities as: National Affairs Briefings, national leadership seminars, rallies, media appearances, personal appearances, and the distribution of cassette tapes.(14) The Roundtable's National Affairs Briefing in August 1980 was highlighted by an appearance of presidential candidate Ronald Reagan. He was the only presidential candidate to accept the Roundtable's invitation to the event.(28)
The Religious Roundtable holds an annual prayer breakfast to "pray for America." Among the speakers at the February 1989 breakfast were Lt. Col. Oliver North, Ret., Dr. Ben Armstrong of the National Religious Broadcasters, Philippine Ambassador to the United Nations Claudio Teehankee, South African Ambassador P.G.J. Koornhof, and Israeli Consul General Moshe Aumann.(10) Within the religious community, the Religious Roundtable mounted an impassioned attack on the National Council of Churches (NCC), the national organization of mainline and progressive Protestant churches. McAteer said of the group's efforts to update the Bible to, among other things, include gender-inclusive language, "Powerful forces within the NCC appear to be literally declaring war on our Holy Scriptures," and went on to call this an "evil scheme to rewrite the Bible."(13)
In 1987 the Roundtable initiated "Mid-South Viewpoint," its first radio program. Guests on the inaugural program were presidential candidate Pat Robertson, High Frontier president General Daniel Graham (ret.), and Eagle forum president Phyllis Schlafly. The "Mid-South viewpoint" was a half-hour panel show which would cover a range of concerns important to conservative Christians. McAteer announced that the Roundtable was also planning a nationwide five- minute daily broadcast "Roundtable Review" in which McAteer would comment on moral issues.(12) In pursuing an effective grassroots movement to influence public policy, the Roundtable targeted seven state Roundtable organizations for special development in 1987. The states selected were: California, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.(12)
