I think the answer lies in the interpretation of the English language employed in 1611. For we read in Psalm 47:2, "For the LORD most high is TERRIBLE; he is a great King over all the earth" (KJV).Thus, the word terrible, is synonymous with awesome or terrific. Likewise, the fear of Lord is to stand in awe of Him. That is to say, honor and respect Him for His magnificent glory, spendor, love and power.
