Elder, Deacons, and Preachers dutiesgreenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread |
Darrel has said in a nother thread,And yes ... in many congregations the "paid staff person" does serve as an elder. Sadly, in many congregations, he is the only one truly doing the work that the elders SHOULD be doing ... and that, my friends, is yet another thread!
So I started another thread:)
I am intrested in some of you ideas as to what the duties of the elders, deacons, and preacher are.
I have my thoughts and I know what the Bible says (though sometimes I believe it is somewhat vague) and so I would appreciate it if you could get specific... for example, who does the calling, who handles hiring staff, who handles finances, who is responsible for the administration, etc, etc.
Thanks for your input!

Just completed a sermon from James 5:13-20, calling it "Healing The Sick?" Those verses reinfore the need for the elders to be the shepherds and spiritual leaders of the congregation. In those passages they are called upon to pray for the spiritually sick, so they can be brought back to a right relationship with God. Too many times they are worried about new shingles on the roof, repairing the A/C, and that sort of stuff, and not worried about the spiritual relationship their flock is in with Jesus.

At my last congreation where I served for 7 years....when they filled the pulpit....yes!!!However, where I'm at now....these guys won't take the money. I can't even get them to let the church buy them a Christmas dinner! :)
