Bush is supposed to decide this month whether the federal government will fund stem cell research. I'm pretty sure what his answer will be -- what's yours?

"Mr. Bush said he opposes funding for stem cell research because it "involves destroying living human embryos."" So does abortion, but that's legal."The stem cells are typically obtained from human embryos discarded during fertility treatments." So, I'm to understand that these stem cells were never going to make it to be humans anyway. What's the problem? I support stem cell research, because it could lead to cures to uncurable diseases, or have other scientific use. This way, the stem cells wouldn't be wasted.

I support it for the same reason I support animal testing (and human testing) - it is effective, efficient, and gets quick results. Ask anyone with a relative suffering from Alzheimer's disease what they thought about the animal rights yahoos releasing all those mice a few years ago at the University of Minnesota -- setting the Parkinson's/Alzheimer's research back 10 years.

I have this feeling that the answer Katie was expecting, isnt the same as what Bush decided. He seems to have taken the middle ground on this one, which I suppose is a step in the right direction. As for my opinion, I dont find anything wrong with stem cell research, if it could possibly lead to cures for all of those debilitating [sp?] diseases out there, that one day could affect all of us. I dont see a cure in my lifetime, but maybe in the next one.
On a side note, I was reading an article on the decision and this scientist guys got all hot and bothered about something Bush said. "``At the moment, I'm sitting here in California without the foggiest idea of what 60 stem-cell lines he's referring to,''.
Um, who the hell cares. I dont even know of one. People like that just piss me off, when they get all bothered about stupid things. Be like a web designer saying "I can't believe you forgot to take out the meta tags for that", or a someone saying "I can't believe you're still still using the old I-124x form, the I-378 is much faster". Huh? Who cares...
Anyhow, to finish this rambling post up, I'll leave you with Michael J Fox's opinion on Bush's decision "We do have a little bit of feeling ... that he's put us on the launch pad and he's given us clearance for takeoff but we have real questions about the quality and quantity of fuel he's given us.''
