I HAVE AN FM 10 WITH A 50MM F1.8 MF LENS. I PLAN TO BUY AN F80 SHORLY, BUT MY BUDGET DOES NOT PERMIT TO BUY A LENS WITH THAT FOR THE TIME BEING. SO I WILL HAVE TO USE THE MF LENS ON THE F80. CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT PROBLEMS I'AM LIKELY TO FACE IN THE CAMERA ? THANX IN ADVANCE

Your camera (F80) will not give you any meter reading, hence you have to have a hand meter or meter with your FM10. I do not know, but maybe the camera will lock the shutter when it does not get a meter reading, not making you able to trig the shutter? Take your MF lens with you to the shop and try out.

My advice: Sell your MF lens and buy the AF version (then you do not have to save up that much) or wait till you have more money. It will work on both your FM10 and F80. It is no fun having a camera that can not do a proper light reading.

The body will not lock up, but the meter will not work without a CPU lens. The exposure mode that will work is full manual. I would recommend that you search out AF bodies on the used market where you will be able to afford a body and lens, or wait until you have a little more money to spend.

I can not figure out why you would stick to a MF lense with an AF F80 ? The AF capability would become nothing, even you paid for it. If you would like to go for AF, I suggest you selling all the old equipment and buy a Nikkor 50MM F1.8 AF to partner with the F80.

I have both and also an old FM. AF lense can be used with the FM!!
