Hi Everybody,

Here is a question I hope you can answer. We would like to begin some threaded discussions because through the regular email list, we often go aimlessly (?) from topic to topic. That's my fault for not trying harder to keep the discussion focused, but here is a site where we could have threaded discussions. This page is password protected, and I have set it up so ANYONE can suggest a new thread. I would hope, however, that we try to limit the threads to two or three or four main ones. Anyway, here's a "test question," and I hope to hear your reaction. Personally, I think this option is very good, but what do YOU think? Please answer in this space.

Good Question about why I'm suggesting this page. Let me just say I have absolutely no problem if this one is rejected for any reason. I think whatever we use, we should use it because it works for our needs. I'll present the other one advocated by the academia administrators later today or tomorrow.

Hi Erlyn and Everyone, It is definitely NOT your fault, Erlyn, that the discussions go off track. The advantage I see to having the threaded discussions is that if we have a virtual place to refer to, we can keep track of what was said. I think we all get lost every once in awhile as to who said what when, especially with technical issues as to scores and such. There could be less redundancy and more followup, I think. My question is why are you suggesting another place rather than the discussion space suggested by the Academia administrators? Thanks for your dedication! Greetings to all, Celia Ann

This is a big effort on your part, and I definitely thank you. I expect there have been times when things have gotten a bit crazy and disconnected, but for the most part, I really prefer the e-mail as we have been doing. I know I check the mail about every day, and I rather doubt I will get into this page so often. But when there's something important that we have been going around and around on, I agree we do really need something like this where we can come and get it all straight. Is there a way to combine the two? My knowledge of cybertechniques is not up to this--could we just go on like we have been with mail, and then when something realy big comes up--like when we are asked to consider something from Rectoria, or one of the big discussions like TOEFL scores, etc.--could we plug it in here in order to follow the thread more carefully? I'm still in agreement with my collegue in the morning who was afraid she wouldn't get in on so many discussions if she has to open a page and go check to see what's up with the academy. I don't always feel the need to participate, if people are presenting my points of view, but I do read all the mails from the academy. And this page, I doubt that would just open on my own every day--it seems more like for special occasions and heated debate, etc.

But it's OK with me if everyone wants to use it.

While I like the idea of the threaded discussion, I tend to agree with Joy that I'm more likely to read the messages if they come with the rest of the e-mail. I'm sure I can get used to it though if most folks prefer this way. Steve

Hi everyone, In order to check on the discussions I have to hold Erlyn's original invitation in my "active" email. If I file it in my folder "English Academy" I won't think to check or join in. I prefer our email system where I read everything before filing; it keeps me up-to-date. But I appreciate Erlyn's efforts to improve our communications! Janet

I am just finding this page now, and I too doubt that I will check it as often as I read the emails. The organizational advantage is clear, but one more thing on the to-do list is a BIG disadvantage.

Oh... I get it now. We can have this page "alert us" when someone adds a comment, thus combining the best of both worlds. All right, that makes it much more useful to me.
