Ha ha! Fooled ya'! I do get to play mama again but it's to 4 little homeless Aussie pups (Australian Shepherd rescue). We're so excited! We usually get grown ones as foster dogs. So if you want/ need a puppy let me know. They are sooooo cute :D

I've never owned an Australian shepherd, but have heard that they are very intelligent and easily trained. Wish I lived closer!!

Oh, they are wonderful, beautiful, smart, easy to train!!! Probably my favorite dog breed - never anything but a smile on my face as I think of the two Aussies who've owned me - Ol' One Eyed Jack (blue merle; one blue and one brown eye) and Pepper - known to all the kids around as Pepperoni the Wonder Dog (wouldn't let parents spank their kids!) I want one!! Sigh, Hubby would KILL me dead! Wouldn't wanna trade for a dozen or so cats, wouldja?!

Denise, are you going to come over here and clean off the Mt. Dew I spewed all over my keyboard when I read your subject line? I was about to advise you that your husband needed to find a new hobby! :)

My two-year old "puppy" is enough for me, thanks! But I love hearing about animals. How old are your pups?

We had an Aussie once, she was wonderful.Super in obedience and very serious about guarding her farm and family. Her name was Glory, grey merle with odd eyes. How old are your pups?

The pups are aproximately 8 wks. old. We have 3 boys and 1 little lady. We have a red, a red merle, and 2 blacks. They'll only be with me for about 10 more days before they go to more permanent foster care until they are adopted. I personally have one very grouchy alpha female 41/2 yrs.) that does well with puppies. She's very grouchy and hard on other full grown dogs especially other females. But she is wonderful with her human family! They are very entertaining dogs. Most of them don't have the temperament that my gal has though ( I adopted her when she was 2). It's due to her not being properly socialized in her puppyhood. That's why the pups we're talking about will stay together for awhile longer even though they are weaned. It's so nice to hear of all the good experiences that you have had with your Aussies.

OBTW, Marcia mentioned distance. If someone were interested and wanted to choose one through pictures we could probably set up a transportation chain to get the dog where it needs to gowithin reason (sorry Sheepish and JOJ). I'm not putting you on the spot Marcia. I'm just letting you all know that in case you or anyone you know is ever interested in an Aussie. That goes for older dogs too!

One of our carpenters has what is, I believe, an Australian Shepherd. She's kind of unpredictable around children, or so they tell me, and she barks her head off if anyone comes near Patrick's van....except me....then she whines to come out and get biscuits, and follows me around with big soft puppy-eyes, adoring the Nice Sucker With Biscuits In Pockets.

She's a terror on the squirrels, and tends to be kind of aggressive with other dogs too, but other than those little quirks, I like her a whole lot.

I'm allergic or I would love to have one. I can only have poodles or Bichons.

Are those the dogs that run into you sideways with their butts trying to herd you? Some have two different colored eyes? Those guys are cute!

Julie I always carry dog bisquits too! When I walk and in car and truck.....Kirk

Denise, You really scared me with your headline, beings we are twins and all! TRen

My dog is 49% Australian Shepherd and 40% Golden Retriever. Best dog I ever met.

When she was a real little pup, she was always trying to "turn" us. But not with her butt; she'd snap at our heels! Sharp little teeth, too. She also learned to retrieve sticks in about ten seconds. It's gotta be instinct. She's getting old now, though. She used to run thirty or forty miles when we'd go on a ten or fifteen mile bike ride. Now she can't even run five, though she's great in the hundred yard dash for a stick still. or a rabbit or squirrel.

You're gonna love those dogs! JOJ

They do whatever they need to do to get you where they want you. Some do nip at your heels although that's a bad habit that we try to discourage. It's fine if they're really herding but not to good with humans. They also bump into you with their bottoms and I've had some that sort of try to push me along. Some of them are just like velcro. They tend to lean against you all the time when your standing or sitting in one spot. I guess it's their way of being close and affectionate. Like JOJ said, they're energetic dogs when in their prime so they need room to move and lots of activity whether it be work or play. Sooooo smart too! An apartment would be hard on this kind of dog's psyche. But even a small yard with lots of human or other dog interaction work out pretty well.

Sorry about the Mt.Dew Sherri. Did you get it cleaned off OK? I thought I raise a few eyebrows with my title!
