Someone mentioned an pc website the other day - looked pretty good, you could order your own spec and everything - can anyone remember what the address was? Can anyone suggest anywhere else good to buy a PC, online or otherwise? I bought this piece of shite from Time and have had three years of problems. Really weird, hallucinogenic problems that have PC repairmen saying, "I've never heard of that before". sick of it, want a new pc.

How could you choose anything else but DAN Dan? I think they have a good reputation on quality as well.

Trouble is ALL companies have some failures. I'm sure Dell has an excellent reputation but Gav has been unlucky it seems. I think Time is good too but they sell so many you're almost certain to know someone with a horror story. MESH get high ratings in the PC mags.

Don't take my word for it - I don't want you coming back saying "That b@st@rd Jonno told me to buy this". :-)

Dan's your man dan. This will get you to their home page, then you can spec away to your heart's content - http://www.dan.co.uk/ - but get somebody else's advice on the modem. I'm having a load of bother trying to set up the internal 'soft' modem that came with the new pc I've had about a week.

After sales pretty good though - no two or three hour wait for somebody to ring back. And it's the second Dan I've had, if that's any recommendation.

It's up in the loft, but it's way out of date now - 25M processor, titchy disk etc. Wouldn't stand a chance these days, but top of the range 200 years ago. :-))

I think youve probably just been unlucky Gav. Dell has one of the best reputations. I put my own desktop PCs together but im just about to buy a Dell notebook after a lot of 'research'. As long as you avoid PC World, Tiny, Time and perhaps Mesh you shud be OK.

I had a Tiny desktop (cr@p documentation: otherwise fine) that ran without a problem for about 4 years, until I decided to replace it with a much faster Time machine about a year ago. I had an initial problem with the cooling fan which was replaced with no questions and the machine returned very quickly. Since then it's been just fine.

I've just ordered a Toshiba laptop for mobile communications (ie so I keep in touch when at our new weekend pad up t' Coast!).

I would rather spend an extra £200 than buy another machine from Tiny; really crap customer support of nightmare proportions. My brother ignored my advice and now has his own collection of Tiny moans.

Dell has been fine but best of all was an old NCR machine which sadly was left behind as things quickened up.

This is on a new Evesham - £1100 ish - 1.4mhz Amd + trash loads of disk memory - cd/dvd & a writer + 2 years onsite + another RTB & they're all over the place now.

Been brill for a month or so.
