I was so anxious to post my earlier question on this subject that I left out a very important part of it, and it goes like this: In our Book of Doctrine and Discipline 1996, pages 69 and 124, there is reference to "key life insurance". I want to know what do we as AME's mean by "key life insurance" being a part of the pastor's neotiated benefits that are cited on these two pages. In other words I am asking is this key life insurance a required benefit, or is it an option the Stewards (members) have? I thank you Ms. Stovell for responding to me again on this subject, I had asked another question on this subject earlier. Let me assure those of you that responded that I had/have a pretty good general idea what it meant, but due to some "game playing" I need to know more, and again I thank those of you that answered me, now give this second part a shot! ha! ha!

The discipline seems to say that the church is obligated to pay the premium for "key person life insurance" with the pastor's widow and children and the church sharing the proceeds 50/50. It seems the discipline assumes the pastor is a "key person". I'm glad you brought this up. I will be asking my church to provide this insurance for me.

You'd better check with headquarters in Nashville about the amount of money you'll be insured for before you buy in. I wouldn't drop my personal policy if I were you. And, I would consider how my church felt about me before I let them take out a policy that paid them anything upon my death. You might die sooner.
